I'm looking for information on a new set of blades for my 60" deck on my BX. I was going to go for a Kubota mulching kit but I'm not heard good things on it. I'm looking for mulching blades however since I do want to chop the lawn up as much as possible. I'm a bit tired of the trails around the lawn. :)

On the blades, preferably something that is a direct bolt on.

There has been a lot of discussion on this board in the past about "gator blades". If you do a search you should be able to find plenty of information about them including the where to order them online.

There are a few posts describing how to make them fit on the 60" bx mower deck. Here's one of them gator blades

Scrounger - I had problems with trails of cut grass, also. I changed to Kubota high lift blades and have been satisfied with the results.

I mow my 2 acre lawn with a B7500 and 60" ground contact MMM. I get the best cut by: 1) starting with a clean (underside) deck, 2) running high lift Kubota blades, 3) cutting at 3" height, 4) running engine at PTO speed (2,600 RPM), keeping ground speed a little slower than I would like to naturally run, 5) discharging clippings outward onto already-cut area, and 6) holding the discharge chute up with a bungee cord (need to be careful). I am satisfied with the cut that I get. When the lawn is very long, and/or wet, I either run back over any windrowing to disperse it, or pick it up with a pull-behind sweeper. Best wishes!

I have been using the 54" MMM with mulching kit/high lift blades on my BX24 with excellent results. You do need to keep up with the mowing and if it gets a bit high go over it twice, once with the deck a bit higher, then again at normal height, but hey, thats more time I get to spend in the seat.

As suggested above, PTO rpms and drive a bit slow.

You would say then that the mulching kit was worth it? Problem I run into is mowing around alot of our mulched areas, and trying not to blow cut grass onto the nice black mulch. I was thinking of just using a discharge cover but didn't know if that would do it.

I had looked at gator blades this morning on ebay, but was still thinking about a mulch kit.

I have a 54"MMM on my BX1500 with the standard Kubota blades. Lift the chute deflector does help a good bit (once again be careful of others around you).

IMHO the mulching kit was worth it. I never have to worry about the mulched areas unless I accidently cut the corners too close and swing the deck over them.

I have got the 54" "finish" deck and mulching kit as well. I have not met grass that it could not cut in my lawn, and many times cut it wet. It also made quick work of the leaves this fall, and I have a lot of trees.

Looks like I'll give the mulching kit a try, I think I was quoted $150 for since I have the 54" finish deck as well. Thanks for the comments.
