Two years ago I bought this machine to finish a job while I was fighting with Terex.
I got it cheap because the engine was a little tired. Well, it finished the job I bought it for and was still going, so I decided to see just how far she'd go before she quit me. I continued to do regular maintenance on it, and kept pretty good tabs on the acerage completed since I got it.
She finally quit me last week, after completing 161 acres since I got it. Got it home and started pulling things apart Monday. I've decided to not rebuild the Deutz, but to go back with a 3054T Cat that I have.
Wish me luck, & I'll try to keep posted how things go if there's any interest.

Andy, you might want to have a look at mulcherguy's thread on what he has done with a C85. Just an idea while you have got the machine striped down, guess it depends on how much coin you want to throw at it.
Good luck with it and some pic's of the progress would be good.

Mulcherguy's thread was an inspiration to me. But being a man that know's my limitations (money), I'm going back pretty close to stock.
The 90L is set up quite a bit different than the FM model. The pumps are completely different, 90L uses a gear pump for the High Flow and the FM uses a variable piston pump. Hydraulics were getting pretty tired so I'm ordering a new pump. I'm going for a little more pressure but the flow will be the same.
I'm not a bonafied mechanic, so this won't be a tutorial. But here's a few pic's.

I've got a friend that's starting a pool on whether it will ever run again.

Drive pumps.

Tripple gear pump. First section is High flow, second section is auxillary, and the third section is a pilot pump.

All of the pumps just stack together.

Ever seen the inside of one?

Deutz on the ground.

The donor.

3054T might be a tight fit. We'll see.

Engine hoist.

Loaded up, and ready to start the hard part.

I've got the pump ordered. I have to do some measuring so I can order a radiator to fit where the engine oil cooler was. So I'll be doing lots of measuring and scratching my......head for the next few days. I'll have to take the flywheels to a machine shop to make it work too.

Have you looked at locating a 4bt cummins? May fit better than cat and diesel truck aftermarket performance parts are out there to build a a very tourqey 150hp motor. Currently what im looking to build to replace my worn out tak supertrak.

Yes I did consider & look at a 4bt, and it would be my engine of choice. My decision is based on (if I can squeeze the cat in there) the fact that I already own the Cat and the money that is saving me is going into other components.
If I ever have to do this again, hopefully I'll be more financially prepared and then I'd go with the Cummins. But then I'll have to go with a Sauer Danfoss series 90 pump to take advantage of the higher horse power, which would be a few more thousand dollars. I'm on a shoestring this time. ;)

Hi Andy,
I work for Fecon and saw your post. Most customers that are changing out the Deutz engine have opted to purchase the Yanmar engine. The manufacturer has a conversion kit that they install that makes it a factory install and the customers have had very good response since they made the change. Contact me if you are interested. 1-800-528-3113 Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the contact info. I actually just got off the phone with Bill G. If the Cat won't fit, I may very well go with the Yanmar kit. Not only for the convenience, but for the support also. Generally, given enough time and money, I can make just about anything work. Unfortunatly, those are the two things working against me right now...time and money. I've got a 20 acre project waiting on me right now, and a couple of 1 & 2 acre jobs on the line after that. So it may be worth the extra expense to just go Yanmar.
Dang it, now you guy's have got me thinking. ;)

G'day Andy,
Just a thought, while you have the machine stripped it would also be a good time to get the hydraulic pumps serviced. It shouldn't cost to much as most of your money is spent getting them out and in which you have already done.:2cents:
Cheers Tony
