Hi all, this is my first post here.
I've just purchased 6 acres of wooded land and need to get it ready to build a shop and house on. It looks to me like one of the skid steer mulchers would be perfect for probably 90% of the job that needs to get done. I want to keep it as wooded as possible, but still be able to get around with a bush hog (rotary cutter ?) to keep it tidy after it's all cleaned up.
I'd like to do as much of the work as I can myself to keep costs down. I was quoted $2,100.00 to rent a Cat 279 and MH 315 for a week, with 40 hours of run time allotted for that $$. Is it reasonable to think I can get 6 acres of underbrush and saplings thinned out in 40 hours of run time on the CAT? I have driven a skid loader before but have zero experience with a mulcher.
I'm open to any and all suggestions. I own a small Kubota 2350 and a 1990's era Long 2610 (approx 60 HP) with a front end loader on it, and a 6' bush hog on the back.
Here's a couple pictures of the property. The front view is typical of the worst of it (the most underbrush, etc) but it thins out quite a bit over the rest of the property. I'd like to keep the trees in purple, but they aren't as close as they look .. most are 8' to 10' apart.
Here's a top view of the 6 acres :

I would very much appreciate any and all wisdom / comments / thoughts on my project !
