What is it? How do I rid my 4 acre lawn of it?

It appears to be crabgrass. At this point in the season I'd forget about it as it will die out as soon as the temps drop. I blanket sprayed my 1.5 acres a month ago with Drive 75 & it smoked it without harming my bermuda. A little pricey though at $75 per 1 lb jar that covers 1 acre.

In the spring you want to be sure to put down a pre emergent that will form a barrier & prevent it from germinating.

I'd still like for someone else to confirm that is is in fact crabgrass...hard for me to be certain from the pic.

I agree that it's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like crabgrass to me too. Any chance of posting a picture showing the seed heads?

I fear it is brome grass. Although the grass in question has really taken off with the warm weather and I believe brome is a cold season grass. I will let it grow out a bit more to help with ID and then post some more pics. Stay tuned. I appreciated your insight.

You need to put a pre-emergent down in winter. Its the only way to deal with crab/water grass.

You must be somewhere close to Sioux Falls.
I live in NW Iowa, LeMars.
I put in a new lawn this past spring. Came up great, at first.
Then, by early summer, the weeds started taking over. Crab grass,
water grass and others. Was pulling my hair out trying to figure
out how to get rid of it.
Talked with some landscaping and lawn care people. Found a
product called Q4. Did some research on it. Decided to give
it a try. Said it would kill the broadleaf grasses, but leave the Bluegrass.
Sprayed the entire lawn. Within a week, the entire lawn was brown.
Im' thinking, this isn't good. About 2 weeks later, the bluegrass started
coming through all of the brown, dead broadleaf grasses. By fall, my lawn
was mostly green with bluegrass again.
Being it is a new lawn, it is still somewhat thin. So hopfully, after the
winter snow is gone, that next spring the grass will be greener with
less weeds, and start filling in.
