Default B&S Intek 21hp Vtwin is smoking

Hey guys...

It has come to light that a family member over filled my B&S Intek 21hp V-twin on my Craftsman riding mower with too much oil. I am guessing about 1/2 quart. It started smoking real bad and kinda runs rougher at idle. Loses some power under thick grass cutting load. It will smoke after going from a long idle to full power. You can smell the oil burning. I have notice oil is leaking from the valve covers. One side seems to be leaking alot more. Its all down the exhaust pipe and frame.

We are going to have to tear this apart and do some sort of rebuild. I am just not sure what I am going to find. Any ideas?? What to look for or expect?

I would think that once you get the oil level back to where it belongs it should stop smoking.

If not I'd be looking for a blown seal, or valve guide seals.

The newer B&S engines are not built very well anymore, surely not like the old ones were.
