Buying my First Tractor

Hi guy I just found this site and I'm glad I did. I'm think I have decided to buy my first tractor and I have found Mahindra to e affordable.

The dealer here in town has a 2004 3505 and he wants $5500 for it. Would this be considered a good deal? I don't think it has too many hour on it.

The 3505 is a great basic tractor for bush hogging and box blading etc. A proven design that Mahindra has been building since the beginning. Sounds like a OK deal to me.

Hard to answer your question without more info on your situation

How may acres to mow and disc?
How much time do you want to spend mowing? Discing?
What type of tranny do you want (HST, basic gear type, synchro shift)?

For example, my first tractor was a 21 hp (engine, 17 hp pto) Kubota B7510HST. I would mow my 10 acre place with a 4-ft brush hog in 7-11 hours depending on the height of the weeds.
A few years later I decided to plant a hayfield. So I traded the 7510 for a new Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto). Now I mow with a 6-ft brush hog in 4-5 hours. And the 5525 has enough hp to pull a 7-ft offset disc and a 10-ft tandem wheel disc.

I have 47 acres, 17 on the place I live and 30 on another where I hunt. I would be using it to bush hog and to work several acres of ground for food plots.

With that much land, I'd be looking for tractors in the 40-60 pto hp range. There are plenty of choices since all the manufacturers offer models in that size. A 6-ft brush hog would be the minimum size I'd consider and a tractor with 40 pto hp can handle this size mower easily.

If you want the mowing job to go faster, you'll need a larger mower and more pto hp. For example, typical single spindle brush hogs are available in 7-ft models and require 50-70 pto hp.

If you need larger mowers, then you're talking double spindle and triple-spindle (batwing) mowers and the pto hp will be in the 70-100 hp range.

For your several acres of food plot, you'll need a 6-7 foot wide offset or tandem disc and a broadcast spreader for fertilizer and seed. A 40 pto hp tractor could handle that work easily.

Before you go out and buy too big a tractor let's get some more details. Out of the total 47 just how much are you thinking of using the bush hog to do. The place you hunt I'd think you would leave it alone for the most part, so you'd be left with doing mostly where you live and how mush is that. Just what do you grow in your food plots and is it something you sell to consumers, myself I'd be looking at getting a 3-Point Rotary Tiller.

You need around 55 hp to 65 hp of tractor.It is quite enough to cover your full area. if the area is more in future also, it is enough for your purpose.

Are your two plots adjacent or close enough that you can drive the tractor between, or will you be trailering between sites? This may limit the physical size/weight of your tractor as well. Also need to consider if you can legally drive a tractor between the sites.

No it will need to be hauled. No laws agaisnt it as long as you have the trailer and truck to pull it.
