Tractor
97 JD 770 FWD/Mahindra 5530 FWD
Central Texas. Need to clear mucho cedar, some pretty large. Build a gravel road. Some shredding. Round bales. Dig/enlarge stock tank/pond. Always seem to be doing something requiring a post hole to be dug. Currently using a JD 790. 790 is a great little tractor, but nowhere near enough. Looking at a Mahindra 4530 or 5530. 4530 priced at $19,800 with loader and no rear valves. 5530 priced at $22,650 with larger loader and one set of rear valves. From all I've heard, the 4530 would be plenty of tractor. No matter which way I go, I'll have to get a more capable trailer ($3000), and a grill guard ($160). Valves on the 4530 would go about $850. Would only be at the land a couple times a month at most.
Prices seem OK? Advice? Suggestions? Comments?

Go for the 5530. A little too much tractor is way better than too little of a tractor. I kick myself every time I think about not buying a 7520 and buying a 6520. They were only $2000 difference also. Also get 2 remotes and skid steer quick attach for your loader.
hugs, Brandi

My thoughts exactly. Go for the 5530.

Definitely the 5530 and get two remotes. I also have a beast of BB look at the Bison. I have the the HD 272. My FEL is a ML266 Quick Attach.

Have you looked at a 5035? It is a beast of a machine, but a little more refined than the 30 series. Agree 100% about the 2 rear remotes and the skid steer quick attach front loader bucket.

Post in the attachment forum for some advice (if you need any) about your projects that need to be done. You will get a lot of ideas on what might work best for you to get them accomplished.

You won't be sorry that you got a Mahindra, they make some great tractors.

Thanks for all the reply's. Im going to look into the 5035. Do the prices on the 4530 and 5530 seem at least average?

Sorry, but I have not looked at prices for a few years, so I have no good idea of what stuff is costing these days. Would have thought that I would have noticed some since I just came back from a HUGE AG show, but I never even looked at any prices. :ashamed:

You'll be impressed with that 5035 though, but it may not be in the price range that your looking at.

Have you considered used? I'm seeing some good looking used 4x4 loader tractors for 15-16k.

Have considered used, been looking for a while, but doesn't seem to be a very good supply of what Im looking for within 200 miles of where I live. If I might ask, where about are you seeing a good number used units?

Echo the 5530 recommendation. It is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Also, if you are going to bale round bales, you need at least 40 pto hp and the 5530 has 45. I believe the 5035 is 43 which would be adequate as well.
