LA Confederate - The seat works great! Also - that cruise control kit places an electrically actuated high power magnet next to the HST pedal arm under the right floor board. (Really well protected...) Once up to the speed/range you want, all you do is press a green button on the dash and it engages and holds it in place until you hit brake or touch button again. I like that better than the mechanical version on my Max where I have to keep my foot "resting" on the pedal as a safety feature. No need for that with this setup. Also - this tractor will in fact fit in side a 12' x 16' barn style garden shed. I had to make the doors 6' wide and ROPs needed to be lowered, but it can be done. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=453211"/>

Sounds awesome. Maybe this spring I can look into those upgrades. For the wife's benefit when she uses it of course.

It's just a convenience item for me. I only have 17 acres of mixed woods with numerous open areas interspersed. It's just nice to pick a good cutting pace and then set and forget. Lots of loader and box blade work in rougher areas too, so the pedal hydrostat is still a plus for me most of the time. Then there is always the random 5 mile trek down the County Road to mow or move someone for a neighbor. (That's definitely not a great reason in and of itself, but helps justify things for me.) Certainly not a must have item, but a great "nice to have" for those of us using hydros. Bigger, wide open, smooth pastures would make the cruise control a must in my humble opinion.

The last reason is mainly what I was thinking. More touch and go stuff is why I like hydros its just like hydro lawnmowers.. ability to stay at a certain rpm but adjust speed when needed by just using the foot peddle.. iv operated a lot of hydros but never once used the cruise.

Earlier this week I took short drive into NW Houston and met one of Mahindra's Product Development Managers at their facility on Jackrabbit road. Really great guy who spent 20 minutes with me walking around both the 2538 and 1538 and showing me differences and benefits of each. These folks are first class and I didn't expect a corporate guy to take so much time with a customer. Although they were minor details, I discussed with him the cruise and also seat ideas I had, and he delivered solutions on the work arounds for both which were at a reasonable cost. The major item that pushed me to Mahindra is their branded engine which requires neither a particulate filter, nor engine fluid. The visit to corporate helped me check off the last box, and I pulled the trigger last night at J5 Tractors here in Conroe. Gene's a good guy and you should go see him if interested in a tractor. Thanks again everyone for the advice and suggestions, as well as great resources and especially the videos by LA Confederate. Going to need to part with the trusty Max 25 now - may be on classifieds forum soon. Wish I had a bigger garage! Stay safe all.
I am comparing the 1538 HST and the 2538 HST. I currently have a 3316 HST. Primary use for the tractor will be cleaning out 4 40x400 poultry houses. Lifting slats, shaking litter from them and hauling them out, and pushing and piling 12-18 inch deep poultry litter and shavings. Dealer is pushing the TYM made 2538 to the tune of about $5000 less. He does not have the 1538 on the lot to do a side by side comparison. Since you've been shown the benefits of each tractor I'll ask...operating in such a small space would there be any benefit to the 1538? Why they price difference in the machines? What does the 1538 do better?
