Doing the every 300 hr maintenance, oil and trans/hydraulic fluid, plus the every 600 hr front axle oil change.
1) Front axle calls for GL4 gear oil, can only find GL5 gear oil locally, can I use GL5 ?
2) Engine oil calls for 10W30, Dealer uses 15W40 the last time he changed the fluids, which I continued to use the last two oil changes, "would you" switch back to 10W30 or stay with 15W40

One of the main difference between GL4 and GL5 spec oils is their compatability with "yellow metals" like bronze, brass and copper. GL5 gear oil is a lubricant with very high extreme pressure performance needed for Hypoid gears where sliding and rolling contacts operate under very high loadings. This is achieved by incorporating high concentration of sulfurized additives. The downside to such high sulfur in oil is it tends to corrode yellow metals, so can ruin parts like brass synchronizers and some bushings. So any equipment needing GL5 performance is designed taking this limitation of the lubricant into account.

GL4 oils are much more friendly to yellow metals, and so are used in equipment where such high load sliding-rolling contacts aren't present. The designers of such equipment aren't as limited in the use of brass parts. So the bottom line is that if your equipment calls for GL4 it probably doesn't need GL5 performance, and you may be asking for trouble down the line if you use a lube it wasn't designed for.

Not all GL5 oils contain the high concentration of sulfurized additives and many newer formulations are GL4 and GL5 compatable so can be used in either application. I would look for either a GL4 spec or a multi-spec oil. It's better to be safe than sorry.

As for the engine oil your not hurting anything using the 15W/40. It will make it harder to start in cold weather and very slightly reduce fuel economy.

After reading your reply I tracked down "COASTAL" gear oil at Advanced Auto, It had GL5 , GL4 and GL3 ratings and I will stay with 15W40,
Thanks for the help
