My PTO on my 4110 will not run in 540. it will run in the 1000rpm setting.
When I start the pto in 540, the selector lever jumps a couple times and drops out to neutral. Holding it engaged gives me the distinct impression that the gears have been damaged. I suspect someone stepped on the lever and forced it out of 540 while it was parked in the barn. Given that it runs smoothly in 1000rpm, I suspect that either i am dealing with two completely seperate pairs of gears or that the common gear is undamaged.

Has anyone had the tranny apart for anything?

Can I get into what I need to see by pulling the seat and body panels, then a top cover?

Removed the seat, the various levers and a little sheet metal. Getting close to finding out how bad it is.

I am having this same problem with my 4110. My pto will run for about a minute and then start to chatter like its only half engaged then just fall out of speed. Hope you are able to figure your tractor out. Keep us posted on what you find.

I was camera deficient tonight but pushed ahead anyway. I would suggest you wait and see if I pull this off before disassembling yours.

tonight I took all the bolts out of the transmission top section and peaked in... I quickly decided I need to remove the diesel tank to get enough clearnce to get it apart. The good news is everything is coming apart relatively easy and it seems to be built for maintenance.

If I did it again I would start by running the tractor almost out of diesel then begin dismantling.

Step 1: Remove rollbar (8 bolts with lock nuts) Cresent wrench and ratchet with I think a 7/8" socket are required. Note to self - Get help next time.

Step 2: Remove Seat (pull clip on pivot pin and slide out pin)

Step 3: Remove Seat slide from rubber mounts. Mine were double nutted and I needed two small metric wrenches, 12 or 13 mm.

Step 4: Remove hyd remote lever top half ( 1 bolt 12mm or 13mm head)

Step 5: Remove draft and 3-point levers top halfs (12mm or 13mm wrench, 1 bolt each)

Step 6: Remove shifting knob, by loosening lock nut underneath then turning off. Cresent wrench.

Step 7: Remove covers around shifter and 3-point levers, 2 bolts each and cliped into fenders. 13mm wrench.

Step 8: Remove sheet metal plate behind seat. A row of bolts across top and about 4 on bottom, also 13mm wrench.

Step 9: Remove floor plate, 2 or 3 bolts left on each side at this point and 4 or 5 on front. 13mm wrench. Guide the rubber sheet over the levers before lifting the floor plate all the way up. (Note for reassembly: the two really long ones are in the back corners )

Step 10: Remove back end of remote hyd linkage from valve ( leave attached to lever). 13mm wrench

Step 11: Remove linkage bars from 3-point depth and draft control levers by removing snap rings at each end, you'll probably loose most of those. I did. They are actually E-clips and I popped them off with a small flat screwdriver. catch the washers and slide off the bars.

Step 12: Remove the mounting bracket with the levers still attached ( I screwed up and took levers off first). 3 bolts , 13mm wrench

Step 13: Remove the cross brace above Diesel tank. the rubber grommet around the fill cap comes off easy with the cap off the tank. Tilt the bar forwar and disconect work light (1 wire, plug-n-play). Found a huge mouse nest under mine.

Step 14: Remove pins from top end of 3pt lift linkages

Step 15: Remove pins from top link mount and remove top half of top link mount.

Step 16: Seperate linkage from draft sensing mechanism ( under remote hyd valve, right of top link) 13 mm wrench?

Step 17: Remove all bolts from upper section of transmission, roughly 15 of them, 14 mmm socket and combination wrench. ( Long ones at back around Rockshaft )

Step 18: disconnect diesel line from filter at front of tractor and drain remaining deisel into a fuel can.

(This is as far as I got so far... I pulled some other stuff off in hopes of sliding it out under the diesel tank, but that dream was crushed tonight. )
