How you doing with that 511 hoe on your 6000? I haven't tried w/new PTO pump as we've had 23 of 27 days of rain. Feel like a Duck now.. They say maybe next week it will not rain. I'll believe it when I see it.

Slippy, Used the new 7 ft yesterday for about 5 or 6 acres. As this has been the wettest spring that I ever remember here in VA (I'm 53 so I've seen a few), the hay/grass is running rampant here. this may sound crazy but I was cutting field grass/hay with the cutter that was up to 4 feet high and thick as it could be as well as still wet from the rain the night before. I was pulling in 4/L at 15-1600 rpm on the 6000 and it only started pulling once in a while when I would go over some matted down stuff. I was cutting it relatively short as well. I would suspect you could use a 10 fter but probably in nor more than 3/L. Is this one of those that fold up or a single "slab" cutter. International makes a 10ft that is a one piece, but unless you have 100 acres a day to cut, how come you need that much armor?? The 7ft walks right thru it in hurry and is a breeze to manuver due to the great power steering. Tell us what you're up to...! BobG in VA

First, the backhoe is great! Have now used it alot, even with the global watering ( I guess thats supposed to be warming).
Ktcmah: how thick has that grass been and how hilly are you pulling? Low range I suspect, what gear? What am I up to... I have about 250 acres of open hill top pastures, great views. I have a guy who is as about as dependable as the sun shinning these days, to cut my hay. Have not heard from him and my grass is.... well you know. Anyway, I want to cut as much as possible as fast as possible, at least around my ponds, camp areas, and other places the family likes to hang out. I have a 6' cutter for my trails and roads. I am not looking to cut all 250 acres, but the time I can put in I want to cut as much as I can utilizing all my tractor. I don't dare go over 10', and yes, will get pull type to save hp for cutting. I have another post in the attachments section looking for help on brand names and quality of cutters. |
