Default NEED HELP! SHOPPING KIOTI AND MAHINDRA

OUR PROPERTY CONSIST OF 13 ACRES WHIC HOPEFULLY WILL BE EXPANDED TO 30. I WILL BE USING MY TRACTOR FOR BUSH HOGGING A COASTAL BERMUDA FIELD AND CLEANING UP MISC. BRUSH , AS WELL AS FOOD PLOT INSTALLATION AND ROAD MAINTENANCE! OUR PROPERTY IS TERRACED LAND WITH SOME FLAT AREAS. I WOULD RATHER HAVE TO MUCH THAN TO LITTLE AS HORSE POWER IS CONCERNED. A LOT OF GOOD THINGS HAVE BEEN SAID ABOUT BOTH THE DK40/45 AS WELL AS THE MAHINDA 4500 4WD. DO YOU SEE A DIFFERENCE IN A 3 VERSUS 4 CYLINDER ENGINE! IS A 5500 4WD OVER KILL AS I WANT TO PULL A 6 FOOT BUSH HOG MINIMUM. THANKYOU FOR ANY RESPONSE AS WELL AS ADVICE!

I looked at a lot of tractors before buying a 4110 Mahindra. It is still the heaviest in its class. They are a lot of good tractors on the market and price will vary a lot between them. I have 70 hours on mine since April and have no complaints with the tractor.

I have never had a close look at a Kioti, but my 4500 4WD handles a 6 foot brushhog with ease. I have not found the three cylinder lacking in power and the engine leaves ample room for access to the radiator screen, air filter & battery. The four cylinder 5500 kind of crowds things forward a bit. Chet

Since your in the Mahindra section, I suspect you expect responses on the Mahindra side of your question. When matching a tractor to a cutter, or matching the cutter to the tractor, there are many variables to consider. Age of what you are cutting, its make up, hills, slopes, speed you want to cut at, etc. Yes, no question a 4500 Mahindra will handle a 6 foot cutter. Yes, no question a 5500 Manindra will handle it better, and you can cut faster. I have a 6000 and pull a 6' 3pt and a 10' pull type. It will do either, but at different speeds, depending upon what I am cutting, how short I am cutting it, and how fast I want to get it done. You may want to consider your other uses. It is possible to get too big of a tractor, both in size and hp. If you want or need a smaller framed, lighter tractor, the 4500 would fit the bill better. It still has good hp with the smaller size. When you go to the 5500, you get a bigger framed tractor, and frankly, if you are thinking 5500, you must also look at the 6000 and the 6500. They all three are essentially the same except the hp and the price. I have a large number of acres to take care of and my 6000 does the job, but I could go larger because manuvering, etc is not really an issue. I will put alot of hours simply cutting field grass and hay. With 30 acres, look at what percentage of your time you will be using the tractor to do what jobs, then gauge from there what will work best and be most cost effective. The Mahindra product is sound, solid, and cost effective. You can read through the posts, but what you have is a tractor that does not have all the options or conviences of others, but gets the job done. The overall majority of people don't really spend that much time acually operating the tractor, so keep that in mind. If you put 100 hours on your tractor a year, thats about one full day a month. Think about it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Kioti or Mahindra. I looked at both when I bought, although I was comparing the Mahindra 4110 with the DK 40/45. At the time, the Indian-Mahindra (xx00 series) did not have 4wd as an option at that time, and I wanted 4wd. I have looked at the xx00 series with 4wd since then, and I don't think you lose any quality with them. I chose a DK 45 primarily because of how much I liked my dealer, but I don't think I would have had any problems with a Mahindra either. If the xx00 series had been available with 4wd, they would have been very tempting. I'm not sure, but in my area, I think that the Mahindra xx00 series are a little cheaper than a comparable Kioti. If I were you, I'd stick with somewhere between the 40-50 HP range - going larger is not necessary unless you think you will be growing to much larger than 30 acres - but I take care of 140 acres with a DK 45. It would be nice to have a larger tractor for some of the open area bushhogging (a DK 65 and 10' rotary cutter is in the future, but that's still a few years away), but I get by just fine with a DK 45.

Check out both Kioti and Mahindra - as I said above, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
