I am looking at buying a Mahindra 2555 or a 2565 cab tractor, 4WD with bucket. I also want y'alls opinion on HST vs Shuttle. This will be my last tractor to buy and I just want the best one. I am mostly going to bushog and do some loader work. I will at times do SMALL gardens. I have 45 acers and want to keep it clean and do what ever I want it to do. I have not had a tractor for ten years and never a new one. Any advise you fine fellas can give me would be greatly appreciated.

you'll find some threads on this but my personal preference is HST. Doing loader work you can really control your movements.

I don't know enough about Mahindra's shuttle. Is it a power shuttle? ie do you have to use the foot clutch to go from forward to reverse? Power shuttles do not. There are only two types of transmissions to consider in my mind, a power shuttle and an HST. Foot clutches should be for panic stops and range shifts in my opinion. Using a foot clutch to change directions gets old quick.

With lots of close movements such as loader work, an HST is the way to go. With more brush hogging or field work, I prefer a power shuttle.

Let me ask you this. Do you do much mowing and disk work? If so, how does it handle for you. Im looking for ease and comfort but still want the power and capability. Will an HST do evrything?

Ya know.... I dont know. I am finding that I know even less than I thought I did. I'm very glad you ask about the power shuttle because I just simply do not know if it is a power shuttle or not. I honestly didn't know there was a differance. I have only had old standard transmissions in old tractors all my life. I will surly find out.

Given the mix of mowing / disk work and loader work, this one is a tough call.

For me, if price were no object, and I could get the tractor I want with HST or CVT, I would take either of those over gear (including hydraulic shuttle). However, given that an HST costs more with the same engine and actually requires a bigger engine compared to hydraulic shuttle to get the same pulling performance, the value argument and "good enough" convenience of the hydraulic shuttle is what I went with.

Given that you said you just want "the best". And since you said this is your last tractor. And since none of us know what life will throw at us in terms of physical injuries / issues. For you, I suggest you get the biggest engine you can get with the HST tranny.

Here's the catch. When you price it out, you will find that you could get a bigger tractor with a hydraulic shuttle for the same price. More weight, bigger engine, stronger loader etc. This is where I always get hung up and so far have always valued bigger and stronger over the HST tranny.

then you definitely want HST. They will do everything you need from big stuff to small stuff. There is a little hp drain with an hst over a geared model but you will never notice it. Most hst's do cost about $1k give or take, more than a gear, but that is peanuts over the life of the machine, for the versatility you'll get. They are very easy for any one to use, including my granddaughters and wife,, and they are arguably more dependable than a gear tranny because of many fewer parts.

I've had both and will never get a non hst again.

I have one of each. ( NH - T1030 w/HST & T1530 with shuttle )
You will be happier with the HST.
Just buy the most HP you can get in the size tractor you want.

I've used both. I will never go back to gears. I feel like I am back in the Stone Age using a family member's geared tractor. If you are worried about the power loss from HST which is a non issue get more HP.

It seems that most everyone agrees with you and what I was thinking as well. I just wanted everyones opinion.
This way I feel more confident in my purchase. Looks like I will be going with the 2565 with HST. I want to thank you for your advice.
