My 6500 4WD that I bought the first of September has 250 hrs on it and the clutch slips very bad. My dealer has sent me a loaner and he is waiting for a Mahindra rep before he is suppose to split the tractor. I don't know what this means. I am not sure if it is an issue of honoring warrenty or what. I do not see how a properly installed clutch could fail in 250 hrs. I bought a new tractor so I would not have to work on it and now this is very depressing.

i have a 6000 4wd with only 180 hrs and about 150 i had to adjust the clutch on mine, dealer acted like that was pretty normal.

also on my 6500 there is a warning not to keep the clutch depressed as it could result in damage. When you shift do you tend to ride the clutch? Just something to look for. This makes me extra careful to get that puppy into the right gear quick and save the life of the clutch.

This is not my first tractor! No I do not ride the clutch. If I did I could not have put the used disc back in my David Brown 6 years ago when I did a major engine job and hayed 200 acres every year with that as an only tractor. As far as adjusting the clutch, that is what the dealer told me to do. According to the book it was adjusted properly, but when I went into a mud hole in 3rd all the wheels stopped turning. I hope that I did not buy a $25,000 piece of junk.

Sorry Wiam, did not mean to imply that you weren't operating the tractor properly, just mentioned that is is something that I look out for. With forward and back loading and grading it is easy to do.

That is exactly how mine started. Mine would slip while I was trying to fluff hay. A 2 basket tedder. I adjusted the clutch and got it to pull, but now when I am turning any rpm at all and try to press the clutch and release it it squeals like crazy. I might add that I have not received any assistance from the dealer or Mahindra. Seems this can happen when you " over rev " the engine. Only thing is none of the other tractors I owned in the past had this problem. I geuss the Mahindra just has so much power it's over reving all the time. Mine only has 300 hrs on it and it will need a new clutch before my warranty is up. Only thing is thats a normal wear item. I geuss Mahindra should just tell you they will warranty anything that doesn't go bad, but if it does go bad it's your problem.

Okay, so now I'm worried.

wiam or jwcinpk,

Have you been told if this is a problem with the initial clutch that they have corrected or will this just happen every 300 hrs?

musa_marketing,

does this appear to be a recurring problem with the 6500s?

Tim, I talked to dealer today (they have had it for three weeks) They said they are working on it and they have to send parts to Mahindra and Mahindra will decide if it is a factory defect or abuse. I hope this does not mean I have to replace the clutch at each oil change. There might be a low hour 6500 for sale soon. This sucks.

thanks for the update wiam. let me know how this turns out. Seeing two tractors have this happen around the same hours really makes me wonder. I hope they take care of you. (and me if this happens /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

Stopped at dealer today. GOOD NEWS. Mahindra will pay for repairs. Bad news, seal at front of transmission was leaking. I hope that it will not be an ongoing problem. Riverside Tractor in Berlin, VT has me pretty impressed right now. They did not have to bring me a loaner, but they did so I could keep haying. Hope to have it back soon, cause a Kubota M5400 special utility is a ways from a 6500. Not a bad tractor, just not my Mahindra.
