I just got done baling some 1800lb bales and I went to bring them in with the spears and the 3 point wont lift em. I have a 6500 4wd that is rated at 3900+ lbs on the 3pt. I checked the fluid and it is fine and I only have 70 hours on the tractor. The lock is open and the draft control has always been down as I have not needed it. Is the releif valve stuck open or something? Will be calling my dealer on monday.

Just to set the record straight, your 3pt capacity is probably rated at the ball eyes for 3900+ pounds (Mahindra tends to rate capacity at the ball eyes instead of behind them so it "appears" their tractors have more capacity than many of the other brands). A load centered behind the ball eyes will tax the 3pt more more than a load centered on the ball eyes. Your 1800# bales probaby have the load centered closer to 24" behind the ball eyes, where you actually have about 2750# of lift capacity.
That still should be more than enough to lift an 1800# bale. At what RPMs are you running the engine? It is possible that you are not getting full output of your hydraulics because the engine RPMs are not sufficient to get full output from your hydraulics.

Right, I understand that it might not be able to lift the full 3900+ lbs farther out. I tried lifting at PTO speed 2100rpms... with no difference. Also I checked the fluid and I cycled the loader and lift to make sure there wasnt air in the lines. Also I check ed and there werent any obstructions.
I went through the manual and covered all the basics. something is mechanically wrong I beleive.

It won't lift them at all? Or it won't lift them high enough to suit you? I have a 6000 4x4 and it would lift them no problem. So there has got to be something wrong if it won't pick them up at all. If it just isn't lifting them up enough see if your arms are adjusted down all the way thus not allowing you to get the bale high enough. My 6000 and now yours are the only ones I have heard of having a hydraulic problem. My pump had to be replaced because the arms went up and stayed up. Warranty fix.

Remove the bracket off of the 3 point speed control knob and close the knob all of the way. Move the 3 point control lever up and down a few times. It will make a squeeling sound when you do it and it may push dirt that may be holding the relief valve open. Put the bracket back on the control knob. This may solve your problem. Good luck with it. . RPM's do not change pressure. The tractor is a brute and can easily lift the bale, so I suspect a relief valve problem. Will the loader lift to full capacity, either at the pins or at the bucket center? (sorry Bob, just trying to help your cause) If so, the relief valve is probably OK and you could have a 3-point piston bypassing, but it is unlikely. I like the idea above to try to dislodge possible debris from the bypass.

The dealer picked the tractor up today and left me with a 7520! I think they are trying to get me to upgrade
. Thank you for the suggestions but I can't test them out since it's gone already. Will keep you posted. It isn't blocked and it isn't lifting at all so I think it is either the pump or the relief.

please keep us posted, i wonder about my 5500 fwd, it doesnt seem as strong as it should, i noticed this when using a 9" auger, it got hung on a small root about 2' down and i couldnt pull it out of the ground, had to back it out with a big pipe wrench, and yes it sheared the shear pin also.
thanks allan.

A 3ph linkage arrangement lifts a load very near straight up off the ground. Especially at the low lift portions of lift travel the load does not pivot wrt the tractor. Because of this the tractor hydraulics see only the weight of the lift - not its extension, and will "lift" their full rating of the force available at the ball eyes. The body of the tractor sees the rearward extension and will rear up if the weight is too far back. Safety is the primary source of published rearward derating. By contrast, a loader lift is totally a pivot move and so capacity will diminish in proportion to distance forward of the loader arm pivots. This is pretty mind boggling. The mental gyrations needed to get this tend to run you into interpretations that leave something of the physics out and thus cast away the actual truth. That is a great opportunity you have getting to try out the 7520. I have a 4WD one but didnt get to try it out first. Would love to know your comparison between it and the 6500. Be careful with that loader if the rears arent loaded. Larry |
