Default 4110 Changing front axel oil

Probably the first mistake I made is consulting operator manual.

Book says: 1. Drain oil from left and right drain plugs.
2. Replace and check plugs.
3. Fill with new oil to the correct level in the filler hole.

Book calls for 2.32 gal oil. The tractor has what I believe to be a check over flow hole toward the top of left front axel. Put in a little over 2 gal oil, but not 2.3 gallon. Oil flowing out of upper plug. I am gussing the over flow plug is full mark. The book doesn't indicate that. But the oil is in there. Now I'm guessing the extra oil is called for to fill small space in front pumpkin for front axel drive. I noticed a little drain plug on the pumpkin. Probably the most important part to drain as any shavings might lay there; the lowest point. Book doesn't mention this. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows about this. Also, I think I might have over filled by about a tenth or two of a gallon. I guess this shouldn't hurt in front axel? Of course oil is cheaper than bearings and gears. But, many things break because of too much oil and grease.

i wouldnt worry to much, just fill it to the level plugs, i have a 5500 fwd, i changed the oil in the transmission, and put 9.75 gals of oil in it, the book says it hold 6.3, and i fill it to the same mark on the stick as of before i drain it.

My 4110 has the lower drain plugs in each hub unit as well as the upper plugs which are where the oil level is supposed to be. When I change mine, I always drain the differential housing too. I like to run my oil level higher than what the plugs will allow you to fill to, I fill mine until it almost covers the axle when looking down the fill tube on the banjo housing. I don't think the level is high enough in the differential housing when you go by the plug level, especially on alot of hilly terrain, so I run it higher. Doesn't hurt a thing in a low-speed diff. in a tractor, just a little extra 90w. This way I'm sure those pinion bearings keep oil.

Hi Skip

That's exactly what I drained, except the housing. Should have though. Also filled to just around axel as you peer in. Next time I'll do housing.
