Front Blade for Snow Removal??

Hello,

I've recently decided that I need a tractor to manage my 3 acre homesite. The quad just isn't cutting the mustard. My parents also have 53 for hunting which I plan to incorporate the tractor to plant some food plots and mow the fields.

Anyway, I just sat on a 2015, 3215 and 3510 today. They all seemed great although right now I'm thinking the 3215 is the best fit.

Now to my question. I began leaning towards the Kubota line but am now considering a Mahindra. The Kubotas have a front blade option which I would like to have to remove snow from my 600 foot driveway. There is no front blade option on the Mahindra website. Would a front blade be available aftermarket? If not any suggestions for snow removal?

Where are you from? I have set up some front blade combinations on the Mahindra. It requires some fabrication but they work well. Many snow plow companies build plows to go on the universal skidsteer q/tach on the loader. Curtiss Snow Plow is one of them. I will help or steer you in the right direction if I can. Good Luck!

To repeat what Galen said...meaning I agree with him, go with a Mahindra 3215 with the skid-steer quick attach bucket. Have your dealer order a Curtis skid-steer mount snow-plow. It mounts right up, and has the optional (get it for sure) hydraulic angle.

You can also go with a front mount snow-blower, but they get spendy.

I am located in the Poconos. As long as I can get a front blade aftermarket then I will keep considering the Mahindra line. I have no interest in buying a snow blower/thrower attachment, way too much money to remove something that will eventually melt away. Thanks for the replies.

I have a 2615HST and found that when trying to move heavy snowfalls with an angled blade on the front of the tractor, the tractor did not have enough traction / weight to push snow for a long driveway and would tend to push the front of the tractor over. I added 200# of weight on the front frame which didn't help. I found that using the just the loader worked better for me. I also have a 64" 3 pt. snowblower which gets little use since it is faster to go forward with the loader than reverse using the blower. If I go too fast in reverse the blower gets fed faster than it can get rid of the snow. Also going too fast snaps the shear pins on the blower shafts.
Check with your dealer on an aftermarket plow. I'm sure they can set you up.

George2615, good point. Often we will have the front tires foam filled (heavy) and put chains on the front. Otherwise sometimes the snow stays in place and the tractor goes off on an angle.

Dave's weight and chains, on the front, recomendation is exactly correct. The only thing I would add, would be to load the rear tires so the pushing power is shared front and rear. This will keep you from overstressing the front axil. Also loading the rear tires will help a lot when using your loader.

Galen, that is a good point. The front axle is only built to share the pushing power. Most of the power is supposed to come from the back. I've seen a couple of tractors (not Mahindra's, but it could happen) with broken front axle shafts or gears because guys don't ballast the back, then they push into a pile of rock like it was a stolen tractor, back tires in the air...then the front axle snaps. Good reminder for all of us, snow or whatever.
