Default opinions wanted on MF 1030

I am looking at an 87 MF 1030 4X4 with a FEL and 1700 hours
this tractor is some distance from me and I won't be able to inspect it personally...everythign is supposed to work with no leaks and "runs great"

they're asking $5k

having never owned a "tractor" before this seems to have everything I want other than T&T on the 3 pth (not counting implements) i.e., 4x4, manual tranny, and FEL...

if the tractor lives up to its description...it seems to be a good price...will this make a good first tractor?

TIA

OK...I am going to take a shot and guess that (now after doing more searching/reading) the lack of responses (27 views and nobody offered an opinion) could possibly be do to the fact that the 'MF 1030' is considered a grey tractor?

After the research and talking with the owner about the current condition I have decided not to pursue this tractor at this time...mostly due to my fear of having a hard time locating parts etc...

I am now looking at a Kubota L2350DT...so I will be seeking insights on that model...

Anyone finding this thread looking for information on the MF 1030 should check the "grey market" forums...good luck

Good Evenin Pine,
I have owned the MF 1040, the big brother to the machine that your looking at for the past four years. It has been a great machine for me but parts can be a problem ! I have been fortunate in that respect ! My tractor is built like a tank and i have had very little go wrong with it. I bought it with about 1300 hrs, and Im guessing I have about 1550 on it now with no problems ! I have a geared unit which has run great since I bought it.

Your probably better off going with a machine that you now you can get parts for IMO.

That series tractor was manufactured in japan, and they are powered by a Toyosha engine, but I cant knock the tractor at all because mine has run great !

In any event good luck with whatever you decide !

Toyosha/Hinimoto went bankrupt, so getting parts if you need anything major could be a problem. All the MF compacts from 1100 series on are built by Iseki of Japan.

Thanks for the replys...Scott I hope your MF 1040 continues to serve you well...If I was in a region that was close to more dealers and tractor boneyards etc...I may have made a reduced offer on the 1030 (it was listed as OBO)...but where I'm at is a distance to just about anything...thanks for the sage advice
