| MF1540 ? Howdy folks, I'm a newb.........been lurking here for a while and have found a lot of helpfull information. My thanks to everyone...........not as informative but more entertaining was the thread on the worst things struck with a brush cutter. Laughed 'till I cried.
Anyhow, I've got about 8-10 acres of brush cutting, most of it on hills. I will likely be dragging some trees out of my woods, will definitely want a FEL and the ability to run a post driver. I may at some later date purchase a cultivator and a hoe. In analyzing my needs and my means I've decided I could make do with 35-40 hp. I'm less than enchanted with the local Deere dealer who provided a quote for a 4105 with FEL( $21,000 w/no 0% financing, not outrageous but a higher starting point than a few I've seen on this forum) and the local Massey dealer seems pretty eager to sell........and happens to have a machine on his tiny lot which pretty much fits the bill; a MF1540. I havn't talked money with the Massey dealer yet but I'm more impressed with the specs for the 1540 than the 4105. I do have one reservation looming in my mind and I was hoping that someone here would be able to help me out;
The Deere has a 1.5 turbocharged Yanmar engine which, judging from some of the comments I've read, is pretty well thought of.
The Massey also has a 1.5 turo-diesel but, try as I may, I can't seem to find out the make of the engine. Are they ashamed of it? What make is it? Does anyone have any experience with it?
Yes, I know I could call the dealer and have time to research the topic online before I drop by the dealership on friday, but I'd like to steal a march and find out beforehand from someone who might not be as biased as the dealer. |

Great tractors imhp.
We love our 1523. Hope 1540 owners will chime in here!!

| Re: MF1540 ? 1540 owner checking in. Fantastic tractor. Quiet, easy to operate. No major gripes (lighting could be better).
The 1540 is a home run of a tractor. Buy with confidence. Any specific questions, post them and I'll do my best to answer them.

| Re: MF1540 ? I have the 1533 - same as the 1540, minus the turbo. Very well built and a solid machine. You wont be dissapointed if you go with the 1540. |

| Re: MF1540 ? FRIDAY UPDATE:
Well, I've been out and about..........looked at green, looked at orange....and I believe I'll be going with red.
Part of that is the dealer, seemed like a straight shooter. Quoted a price of $22,304 for the 1540 and FEL. Said he'd move the tires out, fill them with water and deliver for free.
I took her for a test drive and it was hard to tell the engine was even running, so the machine played a big part in the decision as well.
One thorny delimna...........should I go with the option of installing a two spool hydraulic port in the back? What usefull impliments, outside of a post driver, need hydralics? The dealer did about crap himself when I mentioned a post driver, he opined that that particular device is pretty hard on a tractor. I suppose I could toss a shovel and a spud bar in the front bucket and do just as well with an augur. What's a decent augur run?
Anyone with any experience or opinions on any of this, feel free to chime in. |

And many others like a round baler, or haybine also require them. Keep us posted.

quote]
Get the factory remotes.
Uses,
Top and Tilt hydraulics for the 3 point hitch to start with.
About any 3 point attachment that has a hydraulic option.
A box blade with hydraulic activated rippers.
A rear blade that has hydraulic cylinders to angle, tilt or offset the rear blade.
A landscape rake with hydraulic angle.
These are only a few of many. If you can afford the factory remotes, get them now, you won't be sorry. Oh, even if you think that you don't need them now, if you can afford them, get them, you will use them later.
