New Massey Ferguson 2605 4x4 w/FEL at 13.8 hrs - review
Got the new tractor a couple of weeks back and so far so good. I had a MF135 diesel which shows more HP but only about 1 cubic inch more and just a few ft lbs of torque. So far have bush hogged, run a box blade and some loader work. I expected to notice a big difference in power but haven't noticed any. The 2605 is quite a bit heaver and some bigger, which I do notice. Like the FEL, power steering, 4x4 and foot throttle, which the 135 did not have. I filled the fuel tank up and it calculated out to .602 gal/hr, but not sure if the dealer had filled it up as far as I did. So it might be even better. The fuel cutoff was hard to use at first but is much easier now.
Don't like to have to remember to turn off the key after shutting it down through the fuel cut off. I liked the way the 135 worked, just shut off the fuel and the key was already off.
Have added a quick attach for the front end loader bucket, 2 chain hooks on the bucket and another tool box for more tool storage.
Checked all wheel and FEL mounting bolts, Hyd/Trans and engine oil at 5 hrs. Had to add about a qt of hyd/trans fluid (don't think any leaks just due to adding FEL) and about 1 wheel and 5 FEL mounting bolts were a little loose. Which the manual said to check.
The reason for getting a new tractor was the want of a loader and did not want to add one to the 135 because of manual steering and didn't think the front end was heavy enough to add a loader. The 135 had been a good tractor and I've owned it since 1986 and it had less than 1700 hrs when traded.

I was looking at this tractor with all options and was qouted $18400, was all in until I discovered no rear locking differential.

Thought the same but got to thinking that the locking diff would not be as big of a issue with 4x4. Also can still use the manual diff lock (apply the brake to the wheel that is spinning). My prior tractor did not have one either.

MF dealers are giving 2600 tractors away these days. $2000 rebate + nearly free loader or free rotary cutter. Local dealer is advertising a 2605 4X4 with rotary cutter for $12,499. I just bought a 2635 FWA with independent PTO, extendable lift arms, dual remotes (4 couplings), FEL with HD bucket and skid steer adaptor, 4 rear weights and front weight bracket for $30,200, delivered with full tank. I was shopping NH and Kubota but a similarly equipped 60+ PTO HP NH or Kubota priced out at nearly $6,000 more.
