I was just having some fun.

I considered the MF and others as well. My MF dealer was no great help and neither was my local JD dealer. I almost bought the AGCO which was the same as the MF only orange because I liked the dealer. I ended up buying from a JD dealer 50 miles away, quite by accident. I was looking at another brand and just happened by the dealer, actually past it up and then u-turned and went in. I agree the dealer is important, in my case I liked the" upfront no baloney" price and low pressure I received.

I got the best of both worlds, the tractor I wanted AND a good dealer. Sounds like you've done the same.

Yah, like you say, saw the guy in a hideaway corner at the local AgFair, quite by accident! Guess it just goes to show ya...

We had a huge JD w/cab and every kind of attachment here for two years and it was a pretty good machine, 'cept when it did break, the local guy here took weeks to fix it, and charged the moon...but it was pretty impressive, I think it prob'ly cost like a lamborghini tho"!!

Well that's how you find out just how good a deal you got, the first time it breaks. I have been lucky, I feel confident with the JD dealer I now have, my Ford shop is good and even my Chevy shop did right by me, albeit after a little arm wrestling. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

There is no worse feeling than spending 10's of thousands on something and then being treated like a stranger the first time something goes wrong. I had one problem on a new vehicle that the dealer was trying to deny warranty work on and I thought I was going to need to be bailed out if they continued to deny service [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] You can understand when customers blood boils when they might have all their money tied up in avehicle and get zero customer service.Sometimes I think they just try and see if they can slide one past an uninformed or passive customer.

There are many good dealers out there but these few clowns give them a bad name. I blame it on the manufacturers though, they must know who the bad dealers are. If they yanked a dealership or two the attitude would change quick. No chance of that thought, they only care about the $$$. Only if it hurts their pocketbook would there be any action.

Hit it right on the head there, my friend! Used to be you could count on your dealer, be it tractors, cars or trucks, ya know?? I would have loved to be able to choose a tractor instead of a dealer!!! Maybe mine would have been green!!!!

Tonester - we were looking at tractors at Hopkinton Fair too - and it was the 400 series that they recommended to us - sounds like we do similar stuff (20-30 acres of hay and other farm projects). The guy told me that for what we were doing the 400 series was the better model - heavier, higher ground clearance etc, and the price was within a few hundred (can't even remember up or down!) of the "compact" of comparable size.

I'd sat on the compact, not really knowing what was what, then on the 451 (which seemed far more work-like) and that's when the dealer started the conversation.

Did you look at that series at all? I agree, I liked their approach and their reputation is awfully good.

i looked at everything there and since we were (believe it or not) actually downsizing from a bigger tractor, I ended up at the 1433 with a bunch of nice accessories. The bigger tractor (a nice cab Deere) couldn't get where we wanted to go, and ate up the lawn. Most of our tractor stuff is light loader (1,000lbs max), tilling small areas, light drive grading and pasture mowing. The smaller tractor will fit the bill nicely. Sounds like you need a bigger beast! Haying all that acreage would be a chore on a CUT... We have two bobcat mowers for the lawn, so no MMM needed. worked out great. Those people were awesome, I can't recommend them enough. Go see Wally and the boys!!! (My new tractor arrives Monday or Tuesday, signed today, pretty fast!)

Are you saying your have skidsteer mounted hydraulic finish mowers? If so, what size finish mowers and how much did they cost? How do you like these for mowing? Do you have any pictures? Don't skidsteers eat up your lawn on the turns?

I was looking through this forum because I was planning on buying a Massey Ferguson, and I was shocked to find that a couple of you guys had seen Northwood Power Equipment at the Hopkinton fair. I was also there, and I am having a hard time making a decision.

I'm trying to decide between a smaller tractor with a backhoe or a larger tractor a tiller.

Tonester - that deal seems pretty good. Can you break down the prices of the implements and tractor? I'm looking at the price quote for the 1433s at 19,900 and can't figure out how you were able to get all those implements for around 22K. I think I might be interested in the same setup minus the fork (maybe add some work lights and cold weather kit instead).

Also, why did you decide to go with the 1433 instead of the 1440 (it seems like they are almost the same price but with a little more HP). Is there something bad about the turbo?

I have to agree with everyone's views on Northwood. I have been to all of the other dealers so far, and the people at Northwood have definitely been the nicest and most helpful.
