I am looking at a 1749 with a loader and I asked the dealer if he thought the loader would safely pick up a 1600lb round bale using a bale spear of course. Does anyone have a realistic opinion on this? He said with the rear tires loaded no problem, I am skeptical, loader is the DL130. Also curious if it will operate a 7' tiller without a problem.

I have a 1660 with an L130 loader and I believe I could lift 2 of them if I could get them on there. Loader is super strong.

Sorry, My loader is a DL 130

Your right it's a DL130. Tractor is stable while traveling with a 1600 lb bale on the loader boom?

Do you believe your tractor would turn a 7' tiller in heavily matted grass?

I honestly have not found it's limit yet. I have a 7' tiller and it does great, but I don't put it in heavy grass. I do believe it would do it though. What is the PTO HP of the 1749?

At 39 hp pto its about the same as my buddies 1980 40 pto hp JD which ran a 6ft tiller through my thick clay and sod without breaking a sweet. I think that it would probably be fine with the 7 footer

You'll have no problem with either task. 1600 lbs is a breeze.

I've got a 1643 with the DL120 loader and it lifts 1,500-1,600lb bales (but it struggles to do so), so I'm absolutely certain a 1749 with the DL130 loader can do it easily.

I recently found what I believe to be the limit of my DL130 loader... I was digging out an old porch for a guy, and using my 42 inch Forks, I lifted out this slab of concrete.

Size is 4'x4'x10"... Now, a common method to weigh concrete is accounting for 150 pounds per cubic foot. That put this slab right around 2,000 pounds. However, when I flipped over the slab later, I discovered that it was not just a slab of concrete, it was also filled with large stones and bricks. So, I'm not sure if this makes it heavier or lighter than concrete, but I would suspect that it would be heavier because of the density of the stones and brick.

Anyhow, I could just barely get it off the ground, and once it was up the first couple inches it was easier to lift. But, I don't know if I could have lifted any heavier than that.

So, I think the tractor would easily handle a 1600 pound bale.

Regarding the tiller, my 1648 HST only has 36.5 PTO HP. With my property being heavy clay, I don't think I could handle a 7 foot tiller. So, I guess it depends on the type of soil that you are working.

TSO, I'll bet that if you could have stood the chunk of concrete upright, the tractor and loader wouldn't have struggled at all to lift it because all the weight would have been close to the pivot pins.

Also, one cubic yard of concrete weighs a little over 4,000lbs, so your hypothesis on one cubic foot weighing about 150lbs. is right on the money. By my calculations, that chunk weighed around 2,300lbs.
