I HAVE JUST BROUGHT A 1959 massey Ferguson. 35x with a perkins 4 cylinder diesel engine. The taco is not working no cable!! Cant see where the cable should be attached to engine/fuel pump!! Can anyone advise, cant see in workshop manual which has 400+ pages.

Not sure about the Perkins diesels, but the Continental engine models connected to the back of the generator and up to the tach....BobG in VA

Does it still have the original generator or has it been replaced?

On the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel the tach runs off the back of the camshaft above the bell housing. If it has a 4 cylinder diesel it's a Standard Diesel Company 23C 4 cylinder diesel engine then it's probably also not a 35X.

While probably not relevant to this diesel powered MF , I noticed that there are aftermarket alternators available that have a tach/speedo ( tractormeter) drive on the back. I'd love to get one for my Ferguson TO-35 so I could hook up the original cable, but at around $200 I'll have to at least wait until the present alternator goes bad . ( 38 years and counting !)
