Default PTO

Just a quick one: I have a 540 PTO on my 1160. My question is, what rpm should I run the motor for the best results with the rotary cutter. The manual recomends 2500rpm for the tractor engine but man...that is really wound up! Any ideas?

The recommended RPM is the most efficient for mowing. It doesn't hurt anything to run it slower as long as you don't lug the engine. The cut isn't a good, but if the cut doesn't matter, slow it down. I run mine a little slower than recommended most of the time unless the grass / brush is really thick and tall thus needing the extra power.
