Check the safety switches if jumping the battery doesn't work after cleaning the connections. My 4243 has a switch on the PTO lever as well as the neutral start switch. When the PTO lever is the least bit forward it will act like that on mine. If you try to jump the starter with a screwdriver, please be careful. We don't want to read about you on the safety page.

Check the battery if you haven't tested it yet. I have a MF1010. Checked all kinds of connections. Finally yanked the battery out and took it to Advance Auto and let them pull it down a few times. It was putting out something around 9-10 volts. Would start the tractor on a warm day, but barely. I was getting the click sound too. New battery, no issues.
