Tractor
John Deere 5300, Gravely 8163G, BCS735, etc
I've found 3 used Massey Ferguson GC2310's within a 6 hour drive,
all of which have a comparable number of hours on them (50-150).

If I get the serial numbers from off the tractors,
can I tell when they were made?

For example, the one serial number that I've gotten so far, is:
GC23008006

Is the date of manufacture encoded in that serial number?

Can I phone up Massey Ferguson, and ask when a serial number
was registered as being put into service, so I can see how much
more warrantee is left on a particular tractor?

That is not the right ser. #

Where is the serial number located on a GC2310? What form should it take?

If that's not serial number for the tractor, what might it be the serial number for? The backhoe? The loader? Supposedly the seller got it off his tractor.

I've not yet seen his tractor, as it is a 8-9 hour round trip away.

The Ser # is on the left fender at the bottom next to the floor board.
It will read something like this for 2006 and up JPA 00000-----I made this # up but it will look just like it. For 2005 and older it will read N-T0000. Good luck

The "GC23008006" that you were given appears to be the number off of the right side frame as mine has a similar number there... As MasseyDealer pointed out there should be a sticker/label on the lower left fender above the floor board.

When I spoke to my local dealer about ordering filters (or maybe it was the new hydraulic fluid skid plate) he asked for my serial number and I provided the N-Txxxx number. He said his database/book/whatever told him that it should be a longer series of numbers which must be the JPA number your referred to for 2006 and newer machines. In other words if the dealer asks me for a serial number saying that it should be a longer series of numbers (JPA reference for 2006 and newer), should I tell them that it's older or before that serial number since mine is a "2005" model with an N-Txxxx number? Thanks again for all of your help on this board MasseyDealer.... my local dealer has been clueless on a lot of my 2300 questions and they even have one on the lot for sale! I finally got in contact with the owner of the dealership about problems I was having and he assured me that he would take action, but we'll see...

I found out serial numbers for 2 of the 3 used GC2310s that I'm considering:
JRA 20544
JPA 25142

n = 2004
p = 2005
r = 2006
s = 2007
t = 2008

NT#### is 2004 production. s/n format changed at beginning of 2005.
O & Q are not used because they can easily be confused with each other and the number 0.

So:

JPA 24627 # made in 2005
JPA 25142 # made in 2005
JRA 20544 # made in 2006

Are there any (significant) differences between the ones made in 2005 and 2006? For both of the JPA serial numbered tractors, the fellows that have them for sale are telling me that they are 2007 model year tractors... (maybe that is when they got them on their lot?)

Supposedly all three GC2310s have tachometers.

Interesting, I just checked mine and it's a JPA meaning it's a 2005, yet the dealer swore it was a 2006 and even put that on the paperwork. I bought mine on March of 2006.
