A couple of quick corrections. One, Mike476, not 472, sorry I have fat fingers. Also when my wife (yes my wife) took the diverter valve back off after replacing the standpipe rings, she was able to get a small volume of oil up the standpipe, so it looks more like the pipe is now seated and sealed but the valve system is just not sending oil the right way yet.

Leads me to hope for a small adjustment resolving the issue (fingers crossed).

In fairness as well my wife did more than her share of the work on this deal and is a much cooler head than me at any rate. Tractor would probably still be in 500 pcs without her.

FWJ, Thanks. When troubleshooting, lever position had no effect at low rpm (some turbulence in sump), but at higher rev, splashing and falling fluid from above was visible through side plate, and more so when lever raised. We lifted the top again at that point and double checked standpipe and orings. bottom had cracked plastic spring ring, so we replaced both that and the oring there. splashing could have been a guyser from bottom of pipe or maybe from pressure control valve dump, hard to be sure.

This pump has no relief valve, I assume it is using the hitch "pressure control" feature to do that part, since the parts manual shows a variant with a plug where the relief should go like my pump has. The manuals simply dont tell you.

After reassembly, no more success, and have not been back in the side to see about leaks. standpipe did seem to be very well seated top and bottom.

The rest we know is that although I did not replace the lift piston or rings, and it MAY leak (arms did drop when shut off, so it probably does some) it has not had a chance to do so, and that was not the source of the "rain" we saw, since no fluid was making it up the standpipe. Thus my two hypothetical conclusions.

Mike472, you are right it is good to have someone to discuss this stuff with. looking back over the old threads on various sites, I am certainly not the first person to have such trouble.

As for Big Dean, I was not lucky enough to have known him, I came along too late. His impact is still clearly seen, however. It is obvious he is missed, that seems a good legasy to me.

Everyone else would speak their minds, Then Dean Austin would tell everyone exactly how to diagnose the problem, and then how to go about fixing the problem....all in a manner that all could clearly understand. That is a gift. To him AND us. Once Dean solved the riddle of the week, the thread would often just end. There wasn't anything else left to add once he was done. He's one of those folks that I've never met, but I miss sorely.

I'm on the way home. CD awaits.

I remember being told when I sat the standpipe into the pump to be careful to not only make sure that it was well seated, but to not push the standpipe in too far as it will block the passage of fluid. You should feel the positive lock as the o-ring on the standpipe sets into its seat, and then stop. I did have to play with mine a little to get optimal flow. I can't say that this is what you're experiencing but might be worth checking.

Regards.

Quick update: Fiddled around with everything, found the standpipe was was not proper, also had blown top orings. Replaced the rings (didn't have the correct back up ring) and put her back together. It actually worked for about 30 secs, then fragged the orings again. Imagine my shock when it actually lifted the mower!

This has been a wild ride. I have proper rings on order (auto parts store did not have the back up ring), hope that gets it done. I would like to have this whole chapter behind me. Perhaps the lame will walk again.

Hello all,

Long time since last post. After a very convoluted process, tractor is 100% up and running, lifting stuff, mowing hay. Long trip but finally there. Thanks for the help and moral support.

Hi Lads

Could i pull on your experience.

I have a MF 135 and i'm having trouble with the lift arms.

The issue i have is that i have no control of the arms. the will rasie and lower but not stop inbetween. By that i mean when i raise the control arm the arms will lift and keep lifting until they cant raise anymore, and the pump can be heard constant pumping.

The other issue is that the draft level has no effect and doesnt work.
I did rebuilt the big spring as there was a lot of play on that. I think the draft level used to work before i repaired the spring but i cant be sure as i only have the tractor a few weeks.

I took off the dipstick cover and reached in with my hand. I can put my hand upward and feel movement/play on the draft linkages when the draft level is in the downward position. When i raise the draft level the play disappears.

Does it mean there is something broken or badly worn?

My pump seems ok as i can hear going into constant pumping when the arms are raised.

Any help would be great,

Thanks Lads
