    Default MF 35 Overhaul z134

Thought I would start this thread documenting the overhaul of my 63 MF35 deluxe which will be for sale after its done. The problem was it started smoking a little bit. found I had water in the oil. On teardown nothing was real evident, plugs looked all the same and compression was good. Engine had never used any oil.

    1) found possible water leak in head gasket between 2-3 cylinders discolored area is all it showed.
    2) removed the engine and checked the crank/rod bearings std sizes on all Engine was original and had never been opened it was still wired .
    3) Removed sleeves and inspected block no evidence of cracking in web, sleeve seals were iffy.

Sending head, block, crank ,rods to machine shop to be cleaned, verified reconditioned as needed

Will upload pics when I get it back from the shop

    Good luck on your overhaul.

Hope the dye penetrant and/or magnaflux inspection turns out OK--no hairline cracks.

I'm restoring a 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor that has a 4-cyl, 25hp Hercules gas engine. Found a hairline crack in the water jacket on the right front part of the block. No big deal to braze it.

Had worse luck with a 1948 Farmall Cub engine--hairline crack on the bloster flange (lower right part of the block) turned out to be a complete break. No way to fix it--not enough meat on the block or the flange to even attempt a cast iron weld job. Scratch one engine block. Looking for another.

Will be watching your progress closely, I want to do the same in a few years and there's nothing like having a fully documented rebuild as reference material.

    Good luck!

Maybe new valve guides and seals and a head gasket repqlacement is all that it needed if the compression was still good. However, your $'s , your choice.

yes that was a option but like i stated the sleeve seals were iffy and it has never been rebuilt so i am going full sleeve, piston, rings kit. The rods and crank are being checked and only if needed will they be ground.
100% overhauled will be a selling point to someone or I will keep it. Just dont tell my wife

Well its taken awhile to update seems like as soon as I start one project something else pops up.

Its back from the shop, Block cleaned and sleeves installed, Crank turned .010
Rods reconditioned, Head decked and valves done. Oil pump kit installed, New Timing gears installed

It is going back on the shelf as I have more projects to tend to that are more urgent.
