Mowing MF231 Bushogging but Bush Hog won't Stay Down

I have a 1999 MF231. I got it for a steal and it looks and runs great. However, this is my first tractor and not sure if the tractor is operating as it is supposed to. When I am pulling a 5 foot bushhog, I lower the bushhog all the way and it runs great. However sometimes the bushhog will raise up all by itself and I don't really notice until I turn around. I also do not seem to have any intermediate stops between all the way up and all the way down. Can someone telll me what I might be doing wriong? I bought a owners/user manual but It has not helped.

You are not setting the draft and position controls properly and the draft function is lifting the mower. Re read the section(s) concerning operating in position control (non ground engaging implements). The hydraulic system in your MF is quite versatile but not as simple to operate as the position control only systems provided on nearly all CUTs.
