GC Sloppy Wobbly Seat

<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=462357"/> Do yourself a favor... Take some gorilla tape and layer it up as seen in this pic. Also grease up the plate that the seat spins around on for much easier operation. I actually dont hate my seat as much now! While you are at it add some tape to the plate that your seat springs contact...... It quiets it down alot.

Boy was I disappointed this morning. Bought me some of that high dollar Gorilla tape Thursday and headed out to tighten up my GC1705 seat.

Oops!!! The picture is not the same. Must be you have a TLB and I didn't catch that.

Oh well, I have some fancy tape to hang on the wall now. :D

Jlgurr, I realize the actyal upholstered sest is different between the gc1715 and the gc1705. But do you know if the mount and bracketing is the same between the two?

I ask because while my seat on the gc1715 is springy because of the 2 coil springs and the separate spring within a spring suspension . . It is not wobbly at all. I also contacted several others with the gc1715 seats and they say the same.

So if the seat bracketing is the same . . .then have the dealer warranty it as a safety issue.

If it is different than the gc1715 bracketing . . Than check to see if you have a loose nut/bolt situation or a cracked bracket.. Obviously all gc1705 don't have the situation or we would have heard from many sources about it here. And based on age . . Either its something simple to find or its a warranty claim . . But don't live with it the way it is.

Good Morning Axle,

My seat only tips up and towards the steering wheel. It also has fore/aft adjustment like a truck but it does not raise up vertically. I think that might be where the others are seeing the sloppiness.

Like yours, mine has two springs at the rear of the seat platform. I never thought it was looser or sloppier than what should be expected but after seeing this post I thought I'd tighten it up a bit with the tape idea. No harm no foul, I'm still very happy with my tractor.

I have a GC1710 that I bought brand new in April 2015. The seat is very sloppy. I had one of the pins in it fall out after the pin in it failed. I put it back together with a better pin but it's still sloppy. It's easily the worst thing about a GC1710 in my opinion.

I bought mine new 6 months ago and in my opinion the seat is the worst part of the tractor design.

I'm going to measure the seat and see if one of the ebay ones will fit.

I can only atest to the deluxe seat that comes on the fc1715. Its excellent. It is comfortable for a bigger frame and handles wadhboarded lawn like its not washboarded. It has 2 coil springs undrr tje sest and the a separate type of spring suspension under the seat that sits midway between the 2 coil springs. That spring suspension is a spring-inside-a-spring.

Its a contoured seat with heavy duty materials. I don't know that the ebay seats are similar but the spring suspension seems to help a bunch.

P.s. I believe the gc1720 uses the same seat but of course on a swivel base.

Next visit to the dealer will find me test sitting one of these seats. Mine is normally not an issue but we've had more rain this year and more grass cutting with more "seat time" so I'm looking at alternatives too.

Personaly I thought the gc1715 seat was not only diffrent in appearance but also firmness comfort and the added springs seems to be part of the issue benefit.

I wonder if the seats are interchangeable between the gc1705 and gc1715 and if so . . . What does the gc1715 seat plus bade . . . cost ?

I'll post back answers to your questions after o visit my dealer. Must admit I am getting more curious by the day to sit on the better seat. :D
