Can someone tell me the difference between a 1030 and a 1030L?

I am not sure about the difference between a 1030 and a 1030L. I have a 1030 Synchro, according to the workshop manual descriptions of the transmissions. I found no mention of the L in the manual which covers the 1010, 1020, 1030, 1035 and 1045.

Every time I go to the MF dealer for parts they ask me if it's a 1030 or a 1030L. I've been saying it's a 1030 but got an oil filter the other day for a 1030L and it fit better than the ones I was getting for the 1030. Where did you get your manual? Can you give me the engine # for the 1035?

I'll try to look a few things up this evening for you. I got my manual when I bought the tractor from the previous owner. It is the MF Shop manual, which I have seen in a couple of places online for over $100.

Eugene,

I don't know if that model was sold as an Allis Chalmers or a Simplicity, but if it was, and you can cross it to either brand, manuals may be available for free download from the Simplicity web site. (I believe the 1030 was also sold as an Allis Deutz 5220.)

For reference, the following Hinomoto manuals are available as Allis-Chalmers operator and parts manuals on the Simplicity site. I believe all were sold under the Simplicity and Allis Duetz names also.

Allis Chalmers 5015 Simplicity P/N 2097355
Allis Chalmers 5020 Simplicity P/N 2097313
Allis Chalmers 5030 Simplicity P/N 2097242

Good luck,

Knute

The 1020 was the same as the 5220. But even then I won't be able to tell the difference in the 1030 and 1030L because I don't know which one AC used.

Here is what I found in the shop manual regarding the engines in this series.

MF 1010: Toyosha CS86; Three Cyl., 865cc
MF 1020: Toyosha CS112; Three Cyl., 1126cc
MF 1030: Toyosha MS142; Three Cyl., 1425cc
MF 1035: Toyosha MS150; Three Cyl., 1505cc
MF 1040: Toyosha 3S200; Three Cyl., 1994cc
MF1045: Toyosha 3D200; Three Cyl., 1994cc

Thanks for the info, Russ. I've been wondering which engine the 1035 had but I still don't know the difference between a 1030 and 1030L.

I don't know what the differences might be either. The shop manual makes clear the differences between all the models mentioned, including the differences between the 1030 and the 1030 synchro, but no mention of the "L".

I finally found out the difference between the 1030 and 1030L. The L stands for late and refers to tractors built after a certain serial number. They have running changes such as a spin on fuel filter instead of the bowl and a longer oil filter. The best I can tell, all 1030 Syncros are L's.
