I looked at some of the links but don't remember a Eaton. It may have been one on the links that I didn't look at. I like the one that I posted because it has enough flow that there is no restrictions, the foot print is small, it is a single handle joystick, it has inlet and outlet ports more in line with the flow and not to large, it has float on one spool, it has regen on one port, can get power beyond plug, detents on both spools and I would almost be willing to bet that it has load checks since it is listed for loader use. They also have a Cross valve that would work fine, but you would have to come up with a handle. It has a larger foot print that I would like and 7 GPM flow.

based on a discussion with kenny and looking closer at the specs, it seems the tractor has 6.1 gpm capacity of which 4.1 is available for the implements. The 5GPM Cessna Compact valve seemed to be a good one to use. With a PB port

It had been recommended frequently by the mad referee for small kubotas.

I considered the 10 GPM joy stick but decided to go with the simple one.

There isn't anything wrong with that valve. A joystick is just a lot more convenient to use and the flow isn't being restricted as much and it still has a small foot print.

I have been trying to understand the role of restriction. As I researched parts, it seems the QDs on the tractor, including the PB loop to the Hoe, are rated at 3 GPM. I was concerned and wondering if there would be any improvement if larger QDs were used.

Where did the you find the 3 gpm number at?

The stock couplings are only 1/4 inch.

Even though the flow isn't real high, I can't see having only 1/4" couplers. I believe you what you are saying, but I think that I would change them to 3/8".

Here we go. I will post my progress so far and lessons. Keep in mind I am new to tractoring and have never done any hydraulic work.

To catch up, I decided to add a 2 spool valve to my GC 2310 for its birthday. My bride said I can get an implement a year and I wanted a grapple. I looked at the electric long valve and was quoted over five bills for it! I figured I could add more functionality for less money with a 2 spool valve. My next upgrade is going to be a hydraulic toplink.

Anyhow, I checked the archives and asked around (Thanks Kenny) and decided on the Eaton Cessna 5 GPM compact valve with the power beyond sleeve from Surplus center ($235 with shipping)

Most of the threads I have seen discussed adding the valve into the Hoe loop and mounting to the ROPS. My primary intent was for the grapple so I wanted it closer to the front. I decided to mount it next to the loader valve.

As I said, I am new to this so When I got my valve, I started to look at all the different types of connections etc. and found a lot of confusion. JIC, NPTF, NPSM, 30 degrees, 37 degrees, straight, tapered, metric, O ring Boss. I wasn't sure what I had and how well things mix so I ended up going to a local hydraulic shop. I ended up spending close to $200 (you were right Kenny, nothing is cheap in hydraulics!!) I figure I probably could have saved at least $50, maybe more if I went on line, but there was value for me in making sure everything fit together before I bought.

Any way, here is a picture of my parts.(sorry I do not know how to post into the message as anything but links).....

I did consider a 3/8 QD upgrade, but it would not fit without all kinds of funky angels due to the small size of the valve. I ended up changing the position of the male and female from the picture as well so it was just like my loader valve. Especially for the grapple thumb I figured I did not need the extra flow

One thing I learned is that the stock QDs are a little undersized, according to their specs.
I did upgrade the hose between the PB and the new inlet to 3/8 to allow max flow and went with a different brand QD. Since I was not tying in to the hoe loop, I did not need to ensure interchange between them.

Next I got out my wife's sawzall and found some scrap steel and made a mount.

I put a little foam rubber under it to protect from vibration.

Here is the view from my seat - I believe I am going to need to tuern both handles down as they hit the QDs when pushing forward. It may rub on the cover though.

Here is a nice view from above you can see how I was able to run the PB Loop between the existing QDs for the loader. I ended up having to run the new feed from the loader PG over the hoses. I ended up getting both hoses too long. I forgot to account for the fittings.

It seems to work, although I do not have my grapple yet or any other toys, I mean tools. It clearly pressures up when the valves are deadheaded and the loader still works!!

My next task will be connecting the new hydraulics to something. How do I fiigure out which is supply and which is return to the remote pistons? Does it make a difference?
