We bought some small rounds from someone once. My wife really liked them as she could man handle them herself. I would much prefer large rounds, but our tractor isn't big enough to handle it and I don't want to have to buy a new one just to be able to use a full sized round baler. It's...

Thank you. I will have a look over the weekend.

To be clear, I have no idea. That's why I am seeking advice.

As I said, we are not really looking at making a profit. If what we get from the bales will sell helps defray the costs of the maintenance, great. If not, that will be fine too.

Good to hear. Here's hoping you have good luck for the future!

That is great to hear as it appears that your tractor is very similar to mine.

They are all very much one man operations that like to keep themselves to themselves. They take a call, let you know when they are coming over, come over, do their stuff to cut, disappear to the next location, come back to tend, disappear, come back to bale, disappear, come back to retrieve...

Typically, it rains in May and June. We then get rain in July around the time of the Calgary Stampede each year, which is the perfect time to be taking the hay off. If I had my own equipment, it would be relatively easy to find a weather window. However, when you are relying upon others...

We use the quonset to store all of our equipment and, while the upstairs of it has a hay loft, I don't have the room to be able to store lots of hay that isn't baled, and I have no intention of getting upbaled hay upstairs, and they having to take it downstairs again when I need it (rather, my...

Thanks to all that have replied. I was hoping that someone would say: For a drum/disc mower, give these a look. For a small round baler, give these a look. From the limited research I have done, it appears that I would be able to get a small drum mower for around $5,000 new, and pay...

Thanks for your reply. I understand that it doesn't make much sense but, if we have to pay for hay, we spend about $1,500 a year on hay. It's Canada and no competition. Recently, 1,200 round bales are selling for $200. Squares (65 lbs) are going for $12 each. My thought is that, if I can...

We live a hop, skip and a jump away from where they film "Heartland", if you've ever watched that.

Our hay field is relatively flat. The guy that used to round bale ours made bales that were around 1,100 lbs that our FEL could handle quite easily. We have horses and sheep. The horses have seen better days so are simply living out their lives. Each year, we sell our male lambs and keep...
