I'm bumping this to a new post because so many of you helped and I want to thank you. The brake stomping didn't do anything except make my bride mad at me for digging holes in the ground...BUT...the mower trick worked! I hooked it up to the finish mower and engaged the PTO and voila...

that cannot push diddly with a 1700 and a box blade ? I can pull the blade up a storm put if I try to push dust, the wheels start spinning. I know, the tread direction favors pulling, but I mean, I can't push anything! Any hints?

Are there lessons learned out there on hooking up to the PTO ? After much cussing etc. finally got the finish mower hooked up to the PTO but there has to be an easier way. For instance, I think it is easier to hook up the 3pt to a box blade or other heavy implement if it was set on a raised...

Sometimes the 1700 just clicks when you turn the key. Keep turning the key and eventually it will start cranking and it cranks strong and fires right up. It is a new (not rebuilt) starter; new, honker of a battery that is fully charged; tight and clean battery cable connections on both ends...
