1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

I had not done that, but will put it on charge tonight. Thanks. The ground is the strap type, about 10" long. The positive cable is about 2' long and has the old type lead terminal. I keep brass terminals on hand to replace whenever an old lead terminal breaks. Reckon it could be my alternator?

1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

No ammeter on the dash. Any other way I could check whether the battery is charging while the engine's running?

1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

Ok. Will do. So where the solenoid mounts to the starter could be grounded improperly? Not sure I understand, sir.

1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

Yes. After I rebuilt the starter last fall, started up first time properly, with key, same battery as now. It will start if I jump on the neg battery post as well. I've tried both ways. Jumper neg cable on battery neg post OR on frame. Starts either way.

1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

Not bridging over at starter solenoid. Attaching portable battery jumper to hot post and frame. Will start, with key, everytime with jump starter attached. Thanks. Again, nothing at the key switch (without jumper attached), not even a click (which would suggest low charge on battery, dead...

1974 MF150 Diesel Won't Start Without Jump Starter

Fellers. I bought a '74 MF150 about this time last year. 1249 hours. Had the fuel injector pump rebuilt mid-summer, and I rebuilt the starter and installed new key switch early fall. Started using it mid-Winter but the only way I can get it to start is by jumping the battery. Turn the key and...

Looking for inexpensive AW46 - Hydraulic Oil

I'm on a budget here on the little ridgetop farm. Got 2 old Fords with big diesels that take lots of 15W40 motor oil, three old tractors (1948, '68, and '74), and a 1968 CASE 380 hoe/loader. I buy whatever's on sale at TSC or Rural King, cause I can't afford $95 for 5 gallon at the independent...

    Block/Oil Heater for 1974 Massey-Ferguson 135 Diesel

Wow. 22 years is a good run on about any part. The fella at the upstate NY tractor supply company gave me some good detailed instructions on getting the old freeze plug out and I appreciate you mentioning that also. Like I said, been a long time since I fooled with freeze plugs. Thought it was...

    Block/Oil Heater for 1974 Massey-Ferguson 135 Diesel

Thank you, also, sir. Based on your and RjCorazza's advice I've ordered a freeze plug heater for my old '74 MF135 diesel. Preciate you fellers weighin' in with ya'lls experience and knowledge. Wish me luck. Been a long time since I fooled with freeze plugs (say, 1974 on my old '65 Mustand 289!)

    Removing poly twine from fields

I pasture a couple of horses on a small-acreage farm in west-central WV. Occasionally will find some orange poly bale twine. First thing, I cut it so as to prevent the horses getting a hoof caught in it. If the twine is abundant, I've simply marked that spot to put out a bale (with twine...
