    Radioactive Fence Posts?

On our property we have some old oil pipes used as fence posts. I've been tearing them out since we don't need them. I took a few to the salvage yard. They put the Geiger counter on them to see if they're radioactive. Apparently, they were, but not so much that they wouldn't take them. I...

    HPR Renewable Diesel

Curious to hear if anyone out there is running renewable diesel in their trucks or tractors. Right now it looks like this is only available in California and Europe, but it looks promising. From the little that I've read about it, it seems to have the environmental benefits of biodiesel (as...

    Tractor Longevity

I often hear (and I often believe) that older tractors are better than newer tractors. Why people would think so is pretty clear to see--just look around at all the 30, 40, 50 year old tractors still out there working hard. But I wonder if this is actually true. I agree that all the new...

    2015 John Deere 5045e

I'm very close to buying a new 5045e 2wd with loader. In terms of function, this is the right tractor for me. I had been planning to get a low-hours used tractor, but right now I can get what I consider a good deal on one from the dealer just down the road. As I said, I don't have any...

    oil additive

My Ford 4000 (3 cyl.) does an excellent job leaking everywhere. I'm planning to change the transmission and rear axle fluid. I'm going to put UTF in. I'd also like to add something that might lessen some of the leaking. Can someone recommend a good additive?

    Ford 4000 Throttle Shaft

The throttle shaft on the carburetor of my 1969 Ford 4000 has worn unevenly and so is allowing some air to suck in. I want to replace this part without replacing the whole carburetor but I don't know where to find one. I've tried the local New Holland Dealer. Perhaps you all might have an...

    Massey Question

I asked in a different thread a question which I think got side tracked. Basically I'm interested in a used Massey Ferguson around 50hp, preferably from the late eighties to early 2000s, a 245, 250, 253, 271, or something comparable, but I'm curious about any endemic problems folks might know...

Buying Advice  Question for the Massey Folks

First, I'm looking for a tractor in the 50hp range, preferably with a loader. Probably the hardest work it would do is haying an 8 acre field. I might do a little plowing too. I'm looking for a 2wd drive to keep it simpler and keep the price down. (I've heard the arguments for 4wd and am...

    Hello from Southern Illinois

Hi, I live on a small farm in Southern Illinois, and I currently own a 1969 Ford 4000. I bought the tractor almost 5 years ago and it's been a great tractor. Other than a tune up, the most significant repair has been replacing the fuel shut-off valve--pretty good for a tractor that's getting...
