My first summer jobs were landscaping, yard maintenance and mowing beginning as young as 9 years old. The first things I ever drove were lawn tractors and farm tractors. Many years later, like many people, I still have a yard to maintain (5 half acre jointing lots w/2 rental homes on another acre lot). I find my riding mower and small farm tractors to be almost indispensable. While I had rather be picking music, fishing, hunting or playing with my ham radio gear, the equipment/tools I have acquired over the years (like the 8N in 1998 and 861 Forf Diesel in 2014) helps to speed up the DIY projects and reduce the costs of maintenance so I can have more time to spend doing the other hobbies I enjoy. However they also help the wife to dream up new projects that without the proper tools, I would never have begun to start with. So having the right tools can be a double edged sword.
