Help! I can't turn my tractor off. Just the other day I finished mowing, went to turn the tractor off and she kept running. I finally got her shut down by turning the fuel off! Do I have a bad ignition switch? Most likely I have to tear off the whole dash panel to get to it. Any ideas?

If your 180 is like my S470d, shutting off the fuel with the throttle level is how to stop the motor. The key switch does not kill the motor.

just out of curiousity i would like to know if this tractor is gas or diesel?

Most likely it is the switch. The 180 has a fuel shutoff solenoid that is energized when the key is in start or run. It should not be getting power with the key off. You could rig up a separate switch for the solenoid but replacing the original is easier, but expensive.

I also own a MT180D and on injector pump there is a lever at the bottom.
Pulling the lever towards the cab manually cuts the fuel.
Otherwise the key switch is normally used to shut down the engine.
As an additional safety measure I added a pull cable from my manual shut off lever to the cab.

In effect you have 2 methods of shutting down the engine but the factory never connected the manual shut off, guess they figured the manual was too 'old fashioned' for North America.
In fact the manual shut off was factory safety wired to stay open at all times!
(I have the origional manuals that show this)

The 'D' is manual shift and the 'HD' is hydrostatic but share the same manuals.
