Hello - I'm new to the site and I'm also a new owner of a '78 S650G.

The tractor starts, idles and runs perfect at higher RPM/s. The problem is getting it up to speed - it's hard to get it to take gas off idle. The only way to increase the RPM from idle is to SLOWLY give it throttle. Too much throttle too fast will stall the engine every time. After finessing the throttle to get the RPM/s up it runs perfect. Any Ideas?

Thanks!!

Turnsout the points were just barely opening. Adjusted the points to .025 and it eliminated the stalling.

Any idea what the correct gap for the point is supposed to be???

Thanks,
Ron

No , not really but about 15 would be better , 25 will give to much dwell angle . Check they are not pitted which makes setting with a feeler gauge impossible . If it uses a distributor put a couple of drops of oil on the felt pad in the shaft to lube it . Also a LIGHT smear of Petroleum Jelly on the cam lobes to stop the point rubbing block wearing out .
