The D1800 has 4 PTO speeds. I'm trying to find out what output speeds they correlate to. Are there any other sources of information on these tractors? Thanks.

Hello 284 Int,

I see no one else has responded so I hope this might help.

I have a D1850FD Mitsu:

4-cyl diesel 4-WD
3 speed transmission w/
High, mid and low range
for 9 speeds forward and 3 reverse

and a 4 speed PTO with the standard spline and rotation for American attachments.

It was originally made for the Japanese market only(now the grey market)
so very little info in English.

Someone put various stickers on the fenders etc., most with some English also.
There is one on the left fender that I believe to be the PTO speeds:
1-540 rpm
2-752 rpm
3-997 rpm
4-1282 rpm
There is a little square mark on the dial of the tachometer at the 2600 line that I believe to be the engine speed that these actual PTO speeds would be achieved.

I found out the hard way that disengaging the clutch when running a brush hog at high rpm does not stop forward motion.:(:laughing:
The blades act as a flywheel and can push you uphill even, unless you take the transmission out of gear.

I found just bits and pieces on my model here and there.
Had to wade thru alot of bits of data on other models.

Goodluck

Thanks for the response! I really appreciate it. It sounds like the basic drivetrain, except for the engine, of our tractors are similar. The D1800 is a 2 cylinder, but the transmission is a 3 speed with 3 ranges, and has a 4 speed PTO. I've thought about buying a photo-sensing tachometer to actually measure what is output, but can't really justify the 40 bucks just to know. I use it with a tiller, and anything over 2nd gear on the PTO is too much for the machine anyway. I am getting ready to build a PTO generator, and was trying to figure out what range of PTO speeds I need to accomodate in gearing the unit. Thanks again, it sounds like those numbers are close.

I have an MT3201D with a 4 speed PTO and did not have any idea what the PTO speeds were, so I used a $10 bicycle computer to rig up a PTO tachometer. Here is a thread were I describe it:PTO RPM Indicator

An overrunning clutch would solve that problem.

Rob, thanks for the link. I had read that before. It's a good idea, and I may try it. The tachometer was interesting because it would be usable for other things, too. I just don't know what else I would need to know precise RPM for. I need something to make sure I'm in the correct RPM range for a PTO generator, so the bicycle speedometer should work fine.
