got this D2000 offshore tractor, hydraulic pump appears to be on front of engine and has hard plumbing right to gearbox, where I assume the system gets its oil from.

question is::: does this thing have a hydraulic filter anywhere

and: does the gearbox use the same oil as the hydraulic system and if so, what kind of oil do you put in it?

There could be a screen filter inside the tank that screws into the suction outlet. This can be cleaned an reused. There could also be a screen in the line as it enters the pump. I would use regular hydraulic fluid.

The transmission uses the same oil as the hydraulics. Don't use a straight hydraulic oil. Use a hydraulic /transmission fluid equal to or better than JD303. Mitsubishi/Satoh & Iseki built tractors owner's manual specified #80 oil. In a cold climate it would be too thick. Most other tractors specify the hydraulic /transmission fluid

JD303 is an oil from the 70"s. It has been replaced by better oils. You want something that meets or exceeds JD303 specs. It doesn't have a filter, but it does have a pickup screen in the transmission housing that occassionally needs cleaning.
