Hi;
My Korean/English owner's manual calls for 20W40 oil for my 4940. With 20W40 being hard to find where i live and having used Rotella in other vehicles in the past, I am tempted to try it in my Montana.... The manual calls for 20W40 for summers and 10W30 for winter use but was wondering what if any harm might come from using 15W40. any thoughts or comments would be welcomed. |

I have been using Rotella 15w40 in my 4940 with no problems. I also have a Kubota that calls for 10w30 in it. I have been using Rotella in it for years (1981 model) with no problems also.

When I did the first oil change on my 3040 I had the same thought as you "read the owners manual", 2 pages in it was "I don't think this guy has seen snow let alone Canada.
I had cases of 15w40 sitting on the bench so that is what went in to her. My thought was if it is good enough for heavy trucks its going to protect this little diesel, my only fear was 40 below in the winter, but the tractor lives in a heated garage, goes out side to push snow and then back inside for the night. Never been a problem. - Clean 15w40 is better then dirty 20w40 good luck gm |

Been using Rotela 5-40 for 4 years. Use it year round. 110 hrs. on
4110 JD tractor. Temp. varies between 95 degrees summer, to 20 degrees below 0 winter. Never had any problem with starting or anything else. I recommend it. elad |

I use 15W40 Amsoil synthetic on recommendation of my dealer in my 4940C and I couldn't be happier. He did quite a study on the various synthetic and he chose Amsoil as a result. My tractor runs much cooler under heavy load. I had my Dodge 4X4 on synthetic for years and it really helped.
I highly recommend it. |
