I have a question about my 5740C. I have always used the engine oil fill cap at the back of the valve cover, but there is also a filler cap (with an oil can symbol) on the left side of the engine. What is this for?
Also, there is a third, smaller oil filter on the tractor. I know where the engine oil filter is and the hyd oil filter is, but what is this third one? Does anyone know the approximate capacity of the engine oil? |

Hi jc7672,
I have had a 5740C for three years now. The fill hole at the left side of the engine is the easiest one to use. There is a rubber plug with the oil can symbol on top. I use a funnel with a short hose and works great. I have found that my tractor with oil filter change takes appox. 11 guarts to bring to the top of the dip stick full zone. I don't think this crosses over with what the manual says. What I have been doing, when I find the real facts out, is to cross out the printed info and add the true data. As for the third smaller filter, it has to be the fuel filter. It's located above the oil filter and on the firewall. I have yet to replace mine. I think there is some warning light or something that gives you a heads up when needing replaced. I am always careful to keep dirt and water away when refueling. Hope this helps! Jim |

Fuel Filter. I just looked up a picture of it on the WIX website and that is it. I am used to the see-through kind and the little metal in-line cylinders and was too lazy to determine what lines were leading into it.
