I ahve a Montana 545 and having problems with using the back hydraulic life to carry round bales of hay. The lift will only lift about 5 inches off the ground and stop. With no weight on the hydraulic the lift will come completely up. Has anyone else had this problems and what was the solution?

Welcome to TractorByNet!

I moved your thread to the Montana forum.

Welcome

I don't know your particular tractor but a couple of generic answers.

If you are low on hydraulic oil or if the hydraulic filter were plugged you could see similar problems.

The next thing I would check would be a pressure relief valve stuck open, you may have enough oil getting to the 3 point to lift but as soon as there is too much weight on it the oil bypasses so your lift just sits there.

Do you have a front end loader or something hooked up to the hydraulic remotes? Do they work properly?

I do not a front end loader and nothing hooked up to the hydraulic remotes. I have changed the filters and made sure that ther was plenty of iol. All the values appear to be working correctly and the o rings are good. Not sure what else to check

Well that was the easy answer.

I would go to the Farmtrac forum and search for Farmtrac 545. It looks like the people over there have seen similar problems. Your tractor is really a Farmtrac that was bought and sold by Montana.

Sorry to give you the run around

Here is your tractor data.

FarmTrac 545 DTC with Specifications

It says your 3pt should lift about 3080 lbs at the the hitch points.

How much does a hay bale weigh?

The lifting weight depends on the length of the load also.

Can you find a place to install a hyd gage and check the relief pressure.

That will tell you if the hyd pump is up to the task.

Check it with no weight and hold the lever up until the relief sounds or engine rpm decreases.

The seals on the 3pt piston might be worn, causing a loss of pressure..
