Tooo many to list!!
I am a Montana dealer and in my territory, the JD 790 seems to be a big mover. I've done a spread sheet to show the JD 790 VS the Montana 2740 feature for feature but being a dealer, folks may just think I'm trying to make the brand I sell look good.

Anyone out there owning a 2740 or 3240 that looked at and drove a JD 790 before buying the Montana, I'd really appreciate hearing what you have to say about why you chose the Montana!!

The facts are all pretty clear to me but I'm looking for un-biased feedback from 2740 & 3240 owners that had looked at the 790.

Thanks,
Ken

Why not post your spreadsheet information here so people can add to it or point out issues they think are more/less important?

Ok Bob, I'll give it a go!!

Well for starters the JD is 500lbs lighter and to me, that says a lot! 2,600lbs for the Montana VS 2,100lbs for the JD790. The Montana has wet disc brakes VS dry shoes. Montana has an 8x8 syncro-shuttle VS an 8f x 2r sliding gear non-syncro. Three point on the Montana is rated at 1,596 VS 815 for the JD. One set of hyd remotes standard on the Montana but an option on the JD.

Both loaders from Montana, will far out spec the model 300 loader for the 790 JD plus the fact that the loader will be so much easier to operate with the syncro-shuttle tranny.

The way I see it is that the 790 JD is an entry level compact built around price, while the Montana 2740 is a value compact that really offers some value.

Hey Ken. I am inches away from the purchase of a Farmtrac 270, which as far as I can tell is identical to the 2740 save for the paint and decals. I would be looking just as closely at your 2740 ‘cept the nearest ‘tana dealer is 120 miles away, round trip (grrrrr), and I could walk to the Farmtrac dealer from my 6 acre hobby farm in Central New York.

Why the 270? For starters, the JD is 500lbs lighter and to me, that says a lot! 2,600lbs for the Montana vs. 2,100lbs for the JD790. The Montana has wet disc brakes vs. dry shoes. I guess you answered your own question, Ken. Granted I’m a novice. Never owned a tractor. But I do know something about value and pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the 790 can’t hold a candle to the 2740 in my opinion.

I have 165 hrs on my 270 and no problems. I really like the tractor and would do it all over again.
