Smoking ford lawn tractor

I have an old 1975 ford model 7.5 lawn tractor the original engine was blown and replaced with a 12 hp single cylinder techumpsey (so sorry I forgot how to spell it) OHV engine and she smokes really really bad so if any one has some advice that would be nice thanks

smoke at load or idle or both?

consume oil.. and of course as the other poster said.. blue or black?

It is black smoke

Since the deck seized up years ago there is no load so it smokes all the time it is running ALL THE TIME

black is fuel.. check the carb ..

True though when I got it I did have to clean the carb but now that you say that maybe I did not clean the carb long enough because it only runs on full tilt sooooooooo......................

might be as simple as a clogged main needing choke thus too rich.... or a vacume leak..etc
