Im looking at a low hour Ford 2910 that is in great condition. However it does not go above 1500 RPM. The engine runs perfectly and very smooth just wont run up to rated engine speed of 2000 RPM. Before i buy it does anyone know what might cause this?

The Ford 2910 id a good tractor.

Restricted fuel flow is my first suspect. The usual culprits are a clogged tank strainer, a clogged fuel line to the filter, clogged filter head, clogged filter, Improperly installed filter, clogged lift pump filter(if it has one). The governor in the fuel injection pump could also be damaged.

I'd check out the fuel delivery system from the tank to th injector pump first. When was the fuel filter replaced the last time?

Well the strange thing is that it gets to 1500 and just stops. Engine stays smooth but throttle lever wont move much more either. I'm going to check the throttle cable today and throttle stop. Maybe they are out of adjustment.

Well it sold before i got back to it. Had it listed for 5 days and gone as of this morning. Amazing how quickly they go even when placed with a premium price.

Probably throttle could have been adjusted up or governor checked.
