In addition to the great advice from Jinman...I'd also change the oil in the front four-wheel-drive hubs. It takes New Holland 134 oil..roughly 1/2 quart each (same oil used in the transmission). You will certainly get lots of enjoyment out of this TC35! Dan
Partspring original New Holland parts.

It turns out the tractor is not getting up to temp. after all.
I used it this weekend while burning a large pile of brush.
Had it running for a good 30 min. and the radiator hoses were barley warm.
The gauge does move up just a bit but not nearly where it should be.
What does it meen to re tube the cooling system?
Other than that she runs great and is a joy to use

I will probably be the first of many to tell you of two possibilities you have on your tractor. In the case of my tractor, I had both. Here's the scoop:

  • 1. Your thermostat may be stuck open because of a design defect
  • 2. Your engine block drain has a hose going to the bottom of the radiator. Cool water bypasses through this hose and keeps the engine cool, especially in cold weather.

Here is a picture of the thermostat with the stuck bleed valve. Most of us have found that you can just cut the little valve flapper off and the thermostat will work fine.

The second problem is cured by putting a valve into the bypass hose as shown. Turn the valve to off and the bypass will stop. If you ever drain coolant, open the valve so the engine block can drain.

You guys have been right on the money with all the advice.
I pinched of the bypass hose and she came right up to temp. in no time.
Also the fitting on the block that the bypass hose is connected to is dripping a bit.
I will check into that when I get the parts for the bypass hose.
This is the third time I have used the tractor and three times I have found something else wrong with it.
My latest isuue is with the glow plugs not working.
They had worked fine till today.
When I engage the key to the glow plug position the light fails to come on.
The tractor did start but not like it did with funtional glow plugs.
I know the indicator light is working because it flashes when I start the machine.
I am hopeful that this is not going to become trend that everytime I run this machine it requires a repair.
It is a used tractor so some issues are to be expected I guess.
Any suggestions regarding the glow plug issue?

I had an issue with my Case-Ih Dx29 and the glow plugs. They would only work when the tractor was warm but not cold. It started after I had washed it. On the DX28 there is a glow plug relay under the cover on the right side near the steering wheel and back of the engine compartment. Had to remove a few bolts from the cover to get to it. Removed the relay and cleaned and dried the terminals. Worked just fine. Several people on TBN have had the relay go bad and it is not a rare problem. It is easy to replace. If yours is not working at all, then probably need a new relay.

The TC/DX diesels do not start well without using the glow plugs, even in moderate temperatures.

My glowplug timer is on it's way out and I should get another one. Mine comes on normally and goes out. After I start the engine, it pops back on and runs for another cycle. It may just decide to come on and go off a few times before it stops cycling. If my key switch was going bad, I'd expect to hear the engine "burp," but I don't hear it. I think my timer is just getting old and tired. I need to just bite the bullet and buy another timer.:(
