Ok, I've made up my mind I'm gonna buy that 641 as I'm sure that milky gear oil is no big deal. Now on to the next few questions. Please forgive me if I sound ignorant this will be my first tractor and I'm soaking up everything I can but I'm still coming out confused. Now with that said I don't know what this thing is. It has 641 stamped in the top of the trans case on the left side but the serial# 149*** which acording to oldfordtractors.com indicates that this thing is a thousand series industrial type.

Now my next question. On all the parts sites they don't list a 641 specifically, so do I buy parts for a 600 series or 601, 701, 801 series. This thing has me confused. Should have stuck to the 8N idea at least thats cut and dry LOL.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

hmm.. 641.. sounds alot like 601 doesn't it.. and not alot like 600 ::)

a 641 is a 4 spd MODEL in the 601 SERIES

your sn of 149--- puts you smack int he middle of 1961 which is near the end of the 01 series. it in no way indicates a thousand series or industrial.

here's the year listing with sn start of each yer for the 01 series

Ford Model 601, 701, 801 and 901
Year Starting Serial Number
1957 1001
1958 11977
1959 58312
1960 105943
1961 131427
1962 155531

you are mistaken about john smiths site id'ing the tractor as a 000.. here's the line info from his site:

1957 Serial number 1001 - 11996
1958 Serial number 11997 - 58311
1959 Serial number 58312 - 105942
1960 Serial number 105943 - 131426
1961 Serial number 131427 - 155530
1962 Serial number 155531 - up

it agrees with other tractor sn data sites.

Ok Thanks for sorting that out. I guess where I was confused is I saw this:

"Near the end of 1960 Ford introduced the first of the Thousand series tractors as Industrial models. These tractors were painted red and "buff" and were basically modified "01" series models with a different seat, industrial tread rear tires, and a heavier fixed width front axle. The light industrial models were the 2030 and 4030 with the 4040 being the heavy industrial. It was basically the same as the earlier 1801 industrial tractors."

A 1961 2000 Industrial tractor

1961 Serial number 131427 - 155530
1962 Serial number 155531 - up
