Little bigger chassis than I was looking for but couldn't resist. Original owner was a sod farmer. Bought it from second owner who took it in trade for some new sod equipment. 3000hrs. Needs rear tires, they are the originals. Otherwise seems solid. Time will tell.

How much you want for it?

I'll bet that one is a keeper. Be sure to keep lots of grease in the front axle center trunnions, especially the rear one.

I'm a lube freak. Was trying to educate myself on this front axle yesterday. I'm more than a bit confused. The outer hub assemblies are full of oil, I understand that. The axle shafts use a U-joint at the king pins, similar to the front axle in my Super Duty. I understand that. The center section holds oil, I understand that.

What I don't understand is if I cramp the front wheels and look into the area where the axle u-joints are I see gun grease all over everything?? That grease would have to come from greasing the center pivot assembly?? The u-joints appear to be in excellent condition, no slack, etc. Just don't understand where that grease comes from??

If I jack up the front axle, the right side king pins are slightly loose. Not real bad, but there is no slack in the left side. So I'm thinking I should replace the right side. Shouldn't be a big deal to do.

Hopefully someone can clarify the grease thing?? Thanks in advance.

Grease in the area of the half shaft u-joints is coming from the zerks in the upper & lower steering swivel trunnions (kingpins). Those trunnions should not be loose, there should be a little preload. There may be shims under the trunnion caps that can be removed to snug things up. Make note of the APL number on the front axle tag. That number is the key to getting the correct parts when you need them.

Thanks Rick. I noticed the tag on the front axle. I found a website for CNH parts. Very good info there. I looked at a breakdown of the front axle this morning. There is definitely shims in the trunnion setup. I'll check that out and see if I can just put in a thinner shim or if I have to buy bushings as well.

Spent today working on a weight rack/bumper. I'll post a thread when I get it done.
